Post 1698: June 2061 - Pink Tutu Adventures in a Retro Future!

Hello my darlings! It's your favourite pink-tutu-clad time traveler Emma, reporting live from… well, let's just say the future, shall we? 😉

It’s a little warm for a tutu today, even with the climate controlled air conditioning in my futuristic time machine (a magical pink tutu, natch!). It's June 2061 and as the saying goes: "June's got you feelin' some type of way!" It’s like everyone’s buzzing with excitement and, I think, it’s down to the massive annual International Drag Extravaganza going on at the moment.

Honestly, I'm living for this time period! The future is super-stylin’ - think shimmer, sleek metallics and holographic everything - and they haven't forgotten the importance of drag. They’ve truly taken it to the next level. It's amazing!

Right, where was I? Oh, yeah - International Drag Extravaganza! You won't believe it - this massive global festival of drag is taking place simultaneously in all the major cities! They’ve set up giant holographic screens projected onto the clouds that show the different events happening across the world, so everyone feels a part of the fun. Think global, drag local, as they say. I just know this event is going to change everything!

And this year? Well, it's all about celebrating drag’s amazing history! They're showcasing the very first recorded drag performance – you know, that cave painting from Lascaux in the southwest of France. It depicts two men, and I kid you not, one's sporting what appears to be a pink feather boa. That's what I call commitment!

The organisers have curated an incredible show! There's "A History of Drag Through Song," which takes us from pre-Shakespearean cross-dressing shenanigans through to 1950's ballroom queens and beyond. The climax is an immersive virtual reality experience where everyone can see the origins of drag and all of the icons we have learned from and admire today. Oh my God! It's truly exhilarating and makes you realise that even today, the power of a feather boa or a well-chosen wig remains eternal!

And of course, all the world's biggest drag stars are performing in the different locations, giving us incredible looks, incredible makeup, and incredible stage presence. This year, I saw my beloved Misty Mayhem perform in the futuristic London show. Honestly, it's the closest I've come to being beamed up in a spaceship by an alien spaceship queen - that outfit! Talk about glitz, glam, and a healthy dose of intergalactic fabulosity.

What is incredible is that even all this technology hasn't lost the heart of what makes drag so amazing - that community spirit! We're all still celebrating the art of self-expression, and making people laugh, dance, and think!

Now, before we get caught up in the glittering whirlwind of the Drag Extravaganza, let's take a little peek back at what life was like for drag queens in my time back in good ol' Derbyshire back in 2023.

It was the beginning of a new golden age of drag, a time when everyone started getting seriously obsessed with that iconic look: The pink tutu. Remember that one, lovelies?

This new appreciation for the power of a tulle skirt and some seriously good pink makeup was truly special. We even started our own special Pink Tutu Month – with the grand finale being an actual drag ball! My goodness, did everyone come dressed in pink? My word, the dresses! I remember one queen, I don't want to name names but her look was inspired by a cross between Barbie's wardrobe and the most amazing Easter egg-laden chocolate rabbit I'd ever seen! Oh darling, that dress! That shade of pink! My knees just gave way!

Speaking of pink, how could I possibly forget? The hottest topic for everyone's "Queen of the Week" polls was the debate on the colour pink! I mean, let's be real - how can you have a drag ball without a pink tutu? I mean it, girls! Honestly, we were all living for the debates on every shade of pink imaginable. It’s not just pink though, is it? It's about having fun, letting go, and being you - and with a bit of extra sparkle and a touch of pink magic, how can you not be your most fabulous self?

Even then, we were making waves. We created a "Pink Tutu Campaign" on social media - the aim was to inspire everyone to don a pink tutu. We even got some celebrities involved! We're talking big names here - Kylie Jenner sporting a fluffy tutu in her Instagram posts. Imagine that! Kylie Jenner - in a pink tutu.

Okay, I think it's time I wind down. Honestly, this was quite the week for a time traveling drag queen, let me tell you! I've seen a pink tutu that goes back in time to ancient France, an intergalactic show by Misty Mayhem, and Kylie Jenner sporting some fancy pink tulle! Can I ask, how do you even top a trip like that, dear readers? I'll keep you posted on the future adventures of Emma in the next blog, when I'm going back even further in time, back to the 1800s. The Victorian era... where drag, if it was even acknowledged as such, was hidden in plain sight, a whisper between the cracks in society. Oh darlings, what will we find? And more importantly, will the people there have grasped the transformative power of a pink tutu? You will have to wait to find out...

Until next month my darlings, stay fabulous!
