Salford, My Love: Autumn Tutu Fashion, 2022 Edition! 🍂💖
Hey guys, it's Emma here, your resident ballet-obsessed fashionista. Autumn has officially landed, bringing with it the crisp air, the crunching leaves, and, of course, the best excuse ever to break out all the fabulous autumnal fashion! And since I'm a complete tutu addict, I thought, "Why not make it tutu-themed?!" Let's get inspired by those gorgeous fall hues and show the streets of Salford that ballerina chic isn't just for the stage!
Tutu Styling: From Classic to TrendyListen, you don't have to be a prima ballerina to rock the tutu look. This season, we're embracing both classic and modern styles to create outfits that are just as wearable as they are Insta-worthy. Think layers, textures, and colour palettes that shout "Autumn in Salford" (a mix of chic and cool, if you ask me!).
The Classic Look:
The Ballerina's Go-To: A classic tulle tutu, that elegant, flowing skirt of ballerina dreams, is perfect for those who want a touch of ethereal elegance. But let's be honest, you won't catch me wearing one alone!
Here's how I style it for a touch of Autumn:
- The Base: A chunky knitted sweater - maybe a cashmere or wool blend - in a gorgeous autumn shade (think warm caramel, burnt orange, or even a deep berry red) provides warmth and texture.
- Add some Leg: Some simple, sleek black leggings (those ones that actually hug your curves are the best!) keep you comfortable, add a hint of sporty elegance, and pair perfectly with a black ballet flat for a touch of Parisian chic.
- Extra Edge: I like to add a classic trench coat over the whole look, and I’m loving the burnt orange colour in Salford right now - a little nod to the colours of the leaves on the trees at Peel Park. A bit of gold jewellery and you are set for brunch in Media City or exploring the Salford Quays.
Trending Tutu Fashion:
Modern Ballerina: Want to be bolder with your tutu? I'm all about playing with volume and contrasting textures for an edgy-meets-ballet vibe:
- Oversized Silhouettes: Instead of the classic, structured tutu, opt for a softer, layered tulle skirt that creates a beautiful, romantic shape. Try a midi-length or even a maxi-length, layering it over a flowing silk slip dress.
- The Unexpected Mix: Experiment with textures. For example, you could pair your tutu skirt with a leather jacket, chunky ankle boots, or even a leather biker jacket for a contrast in textures and silhouettes. Think the sharp black leather jacket against the soft floatiness of the tulle for a truly autumnal edge.
Top Tip: Want a colour statement? A black leather bomber jacket with silver zips is perfect. You can always swap your flats for a black heeled boot for a more sophisticated evening look too!
Colour Palettes for FallThis season is all about deep, earthy colours. Forget those bright summer hues, it's time for rich, vibrant shades that complement the season’s palette! Here’s how we’re rocking the autumn colour story:
- Berry Bold: Think raspberry, blackberry, and cranberry. These intense hues pop against the natural colours of fall, and I adore how they pair with black, charcoal grey, or deep green, for a sophisticated and stylish touch.
- Rustic Elegance: Embrace the warm hues of fall! Warm burnt orange, caramel, gold, mustard, and copper tones make you feel warm and comfy - pair these with a dark blue or burgundy for a truly luxurious look.
- Moody Vibes: Not afraid of a little darkness? Black and white, with hints of burgundy and charcoal, give off a stylishly moody aura. For me, it's the perfect way to create that 'artsy, dark, ballet fashion' statement that everyone loves! Throw in a black or charcoal oversized knitted sweater, maybe a vintage felt fedora for the real vibe.
Where to Shop in Salford:
- The Lowry: Their shop always has the most beautiful clothes! Look out for their ballet inspired scarves and jewellery which perfectly match any outfit. Check their online store if you want a sneak peek, but the store itself is always lovely.
- The Trafford Centre: This shopping hub is home to plenty of high-street retailers offering a vast array of affordable, stylish options - check out H&M, Zara, and Topshop for on-trend tutus and layering essentials. Top tip - it's easier to pick something out in store than browsing online, so you can try stuff on and mix and match.
- Salford Market: Looking for unique finds? You can't beat Salford Market! Look for vintage treasures, accessories, and interesting fabric shops - this is perfect if you want to start designing and upcycling your own tutu fashion!
- Second-hand Gems: Remember, sustainability is a huge part of my fashion philosophy! I adore vintage shops and thrift stores for unique finds, affordable statement pieces, and all those designer labels at bargain prices. Pop into the numerous charity shops or vintage stores throughout Salford for some awesome scores.
