My dears, the ballet season has truly taken flight this month with a veritable explosion of tulle and, of course, those utterly essential tutus! The tutu, darling, it remains the zenith of balletic style, the piĂšce de rĂ©sistance of any ballerinaâs wardrobe. A true dance enthusiast, and you simply must be one to read this, wouldn't dream of attending the ballet without admiring the sheer variety and the artistic flourishes the designers have lavished upon this seasonâs creations.
For a moment, letâs raise a glass to the **London Coliseumâs production of Swan Lake**. Now, one expects the classic tulle, a delicate blush upon the swans, wouldn't you agree? Yet, this seasonâs take had the daring to introduce a slight transparency, creating a new dimension to the ensemble, an ethereal quality so elegant and truly quite beautiful. You can simply imagine how the light danced through those layers. And those *petits jetĂ©s*! Itâs a memory I shall cherish forever.
As for **The Royal Balletâs Don Quixote**, the production did little to disappoint. But darling, there were some utterly exquisite tutus in this one! I found myself utterly enchanted by the rich ruby velvet on the **Queen of the Dryads**. I must add, a splash of bold scarlet was precisely the statement the ballerina needed. I've just got to add it to my collection. A delightful and wholly unexpected choice. Absolutely divine!
Whatâs captured my imagination:- The *piquĂ© arabesques* just seem so much more refined when viewed through a delicate gauzy tutu â there's a softness there, don't you think?
- The *en pointe* looks so delicate when supported by a diaphanous veil of a tutu â so fragile and beautiful! One almost forgets that she is poised atop her toes.
- This monthâs *fouettĂ©s* simply would not have been the same without that sheer elegance.
Now, you really should see the collection at the **Victoria & Albert Museum's**, âTutus: Beyond The Dance.â Simply breathtaking. A delightful selection that reminds us of the historical impact this iconic garment has on ballet. Of course, my collection will always be the definitive one, wouldnât you agree?
One more thing, darling â have you seen the wonderful tutus worn by **English National Balletâs Sleeping Beauty** this season? A symphony of hues from pale pastels to the most vibrant blues and greens! A dream for the eyes. Such artistry! I hear there is one being sold in the Ballet Shop to aid the charity... just whisper, âItâs simply too divine to let go,â to yourself.
And remember, darlings, a ballet season without the perfect tutu is simply incomplete. Now run along and be a vision of sartorial elegance,
