Ballet’s Most Beloved: A Glimpse into the World of the Tutu, May 1997 My dears, it's been an exquisite month for ballet fashion, with some utterly divine creations gracing the stage. May has brought us a kaleidoscope of tutus, each a masterpiece of craftsmanship and artistry. We’re here to see the best of the best, from those exquisite Parisian masterpieces to those bold American statements. And darling, don't even get me started on those glorious lengths of tulle! Let's begin with a piece of pure elegance, shall we? **The Bolshoi's rendition of Swan Lake** proved a feast for the eyes with a new and luxurious set of tutus, each shimmering in layers of white and a whisper of silver. Those shimmering accents on the bodice! Honestly, so evocative and truly a symphony of ethereal perfection. Meanwhile, **New York's Ballet Theater brought us a daring, edgy rendition of The Firebird**, and, my dears, you would never believe what we saw. This piece, with its use of vibrant and shocking hues - scarlet, black and gold, I can barely breathe! Such daring use of colour. It wasn’t for everyone, my darlings, but some tutus just needed to be noticed - a spectacle of beauty that reminded everyone how vital ballet can be! And the **Royal Ballet in London? Oh my darling, that production of The Sleeping Beauty!** Those glorious tutus! They really delivered. The tulle, those exquisitely designed bodice's…it was the definition of fairy tale elegance! I found myself gasping for air more than once. Each perfectly detailed tutu, like a shimmering cloud, brought this much loved ballet to life in a way I hadn't seen before. A couple of observations though, my darlings: **we've seen too much, shall we say, ‘puffing’** on some of the shorter tutus, that’s simply not necessary! And dear God, **we're over those ugly pancake skirts!** Honestly, one glance at those and one simply gasps with horror. It’s good we’ve finally moved on. And the feather embellishment! Simply too much of a good thing! One feather is all we need. All in all, this has been a gloriously dazzling month for ballet fashion. I must confess, I’ve already placed an order for my new collection. Now my dears, be sure to keep a close eye out for my next column. I'll be letting you in on my latest fashion find, the pièce de résistance! You simply won't believe this one.
