Ballet-Inspired Fashion: May 2007

Oh darling, this month has been absolutely *divine* for ballet-inspired fashion! The spring collections are absolutely overflowing with tutus, and let me tell you, we're not talking about the dainty, frilly ones of old.

Think voluminous, romantic tulle, darling. Alexander McQueen showed a stunning white tutu, all wispy and ethereal. It felt like the embodiment of a dream, floating down the runway like a cloud. Vivienne Westwood also went big on tulle, this time in a vibrant shocking pink that would make a prima ballerina envious.

And the colour, my dears, it's utterly enchanting! Pastels are the absolute darlings this season - think delicate lavender, blushing pinks and creamy whites. It's perfect for the airy, effortless look of a ballerina. Even the classic black tulle got a modern makeover, with designers experimenting with asymmetrical shapes and dramatic, almost gothic, touches.

My personal favourites are the tutus designed for a bit of drama. Some of these designers were really bold with textures, creating looks with lace, feathers and shimmering sequins. Imagine a tutu, dripping in a shimmering ombre of gold, turquoise and emerald! The result was a look that was both incredibly feminine and utterly luxurious.

If you're looking to embrace the ballet aesthetic in your own wardrobe, try adding a tutu skirt, or some ballet flats to your everyday outfits. You could even go all out and wear a tutu dress. Don't be afraid to have a little fun with it!

Oh, darling, what I wouldn't give to have all those lovely tutus in my closet!
