The Dance of the Tutu: A Mid-Summer Dream

Ah, my darlings, what a delightful month it's been for ballet, and oh, the tutus! They have been simply divine! A whirlwind of tulle and taffeta, feathers and flowers, enough to send even the most stoic ballerina into a pirouette of delight.

  • At the Bolshoi, those magnificent crimson tutus for their new production of La Bayadère were simply divine! The contrasting deep red with the crisp white bodice - pure, sensual perfection. One felt transported to another realm.
  • Then, the American Ballet Theatre, my dear! Their take on Giselle was as captivating as always, with ethereal white tutus for the Wilis. Those gossamer creations were like wisps of smoke against the backdrop of moonlight. Sheer genius, my dears, sheer genius!
  • But, for me, the most daring and daringly delightful were the creations by the enfant terrible, Monsieur Yves Saint Laurent. The Parisian Ballet's performance of Petrushka featured such avant-garde tutus - they were a whirlwind of vibrant color, daring cuts, and sheer audacity! The critics may gasp, but darling, they'll be begging for more, trust me!

Of course, a good tutu isn't just about fabric and feathers, it's about the movement, the life it injects into the performance. Oh, I've seen some dreadful examples, tight, restrictive affairs that could barely contain a sneeze, let alone a grand jeté!

But this month, my dears, has been all about elegance and flow. We have seen the tutus whisper, the tutus dance, the tutus fly - a veritable symphony of fabric and artistry. A perfect ending to a delightful summer season, wouldn't you agree? Now, off to add these exquisite designs to my collection! Until next month, my loves!
