Ballet Fashion: Tutus in Vogue

Oh my darlings, what a month for ballet inspired fashion! The February runways have been positively dripping with tulle and flowing silks, all inspired by our beloved ballerinas.

And what a delightful treat it was to see the tutu taking centre stage! Not the traditional, romantic tutus of yore, but updated versions with an edgier, more modern sensibility. Take a look at Chanel's spring collection; a glorious, tiered, layered tulle masterpiece, beautifully styled for day, in shades of pink and grey.

For the more daring fashionista, we saw Alexander McQueen channeling his inner Swan Lake, offering a beautiful black tulle skirt with gothic inspired detailing. So chic, so cool. But, my absolute favourite of the month is from the genius that is Alexander Wang, a gorgeous, pale pink, pencil skirt cut from tulle, showing off that wonderful whimsical and contemporary, yet incredibly wearable, tutu inspired design.

These looks scream ‘I'm elegant, I'm cool, I'm a woman who knows what she wants'. And I think every woman should own a little tutu-inspired piece, to inject a little bit of grace and joy into their wardrobes.

I have my eye on the blush tulle top from The Row. It’s simple, beautiful, and oh-so-sophisticated.

Darling, this month it’s not only acceptable to wear tutus; it’s utterly essential! So, go on and twirl!
