Ballet Tutu Fashion and Style at www pink tutu com

Well, darlings, it seems summer has finally arrived! The ballets are winding down, the annual festivals have passed, and the world is now turning to holidays and the sun. However, there is no escaping that delicious ballet buzz which always leaves us feeling energised. And whilst I have just indulged in an indulgent jaunt to the Hamptons - and goodness knows the fashion is phenomenal - I cannot forget the latest fashion inspired by ballet. You wouldn't think, would you? But some designers just get it, don't they?

We've had some exquisite gowns and flowing garments inspired by tulle. Some fabulous sheer materials, both beautifully sculpted and falling free and naturally. I do adore the silhouette, reminiscent of the famous Romantic ballet period of the early 19th Century. Oh, what elegance.

We've seen a rather divine collection inspired by the tutu. There has been a veritable symphony of experimentation with it in its classic form - from floor length creations in soft pinks and pale greens which simply swept the catwalk in a whisper to others that were quite startlingly architectural. One that comes to mind, by a young new designer - well, it certainly caught my attention with the black netting cascading almost haphazardly into an abstract geometric form that seemed a rather contemporary take on a Russian imperial costume! Oh, the audacity!

You may say I am being frivolous, darling, but we ballet-lovers live and breathe the aesthetic! There is always a little ballerina hiding in our wardrobes and, believe you me, we feel the impact on fashion very keenly. Now if only I could find myself some delectable couture pieces with enough of that glorious silk - for a certain upcoming occasion, that is!

This month I am featuring a few examples, but of course I am always open to suggestion. Do drop me a line - if your ballet-inspired outfit deserves a little mention, don't hold back!

  • Ballet Inspired Summer Dresses: We have been graced with exquisite creations by Stella McCartney, who seems to have tapped into this delicate and alluring feminine inspiration. They flow with elegant movement.
  • Tulle Skirt & Leggings Combination: I do love this - I'm always advocating a bit of layering - a wonderful take on contemporary sportswear! Look for pieces by Alexander Wang or Christian Dior and you can create the look.
  • Netting. We all adore the delicacy and light-ness of this sheer material and it is becoming increasingly sophisticated in its usage. From elegant, draped to rigid and sculptured you are spoilt for choice! Look for inspiration in Balmain or Chanel this summer.
