A Celebration of Tulle: The Very Best in Ballet Fashion, March 1999

My dears, this past month has been a glorious symphony of shimmering silk and swirling tulle, as the dance world showcased some of the most breathtaking costumes imaginable. Let's have a little gossip, shall we, and dive into the highlights!

  • The Royal Ballet's "Swan Lake" has returned to Covent Garden with a glorious, reimagined tutu. The swans have shed their old, tired layers in favour of an incredibly dramatic new look – long, swirling and dramatically sheer. It's as if they're dancing on air.
  • Then, we have the always-inspiring Paris Opera Ballet, who, for their "Giselle", have opted for a timeless classic. They are looking as exquisite as ever in a simple, romantic tutu with elegant draping. The details were perfection - delicate hand-stitched embellishments and exquisitely flowing fabric - the embodiment of Parisian elegance.
  • At the Bolshoi, they have given the tutus in their "La Bayadère" a modern twist. Think traditional, classical form with a little splash of contemporary flare! And I mustn't forget to mention the dazzling costume design - the fabric and colours are exquisite!
  • Finally, we must commend the wonderfully audacious Dutch National Ballet. Their "Cinderella" has given us a whimsical and innovative look. Instead of a fluffy, princess-like design, they opted for a sharp, angular, more modern version – all sleek lines and structured layers. The bold use of colours? A complete delight!

My, what a glorious month for the ballet and fashion lovers! Now, let's discuss where I can add these lovely new additions to my ever-growing collection! Perhaps, another display shelf is in order. What do you think?
