August is, of course, the time for tutus. Oh, how I love a good tulle flurry! There were some absolute knock-outs this month. Let's dissect the absolute creme de la creme.

  • **The Alexander McQueen Autumn/Winter 2016 collection was an absolute dream**. Those exquisitely structured tulle gowns! They were modern, almost sculptural. McQueen presented tutus as an elegant, architectural garment โ€“ nothing saccharine or childish about them at all! The soft colours were beautifully ethereal. Imagine being the first to see these creations! Stunning.
  • **Then there was Dolce and Gabbana's latest collection.** Always a safe bet when it comes to exquisite craftsmanship, this season didn't disappoint. The use of tulle was decidedly more romantic, but with that unmistakably theatrical D&G flair. A perfect pick for those who love a more traditional yet chic silhouette, the pieces evoked images of timeless ballerinas, a perfect balance of sweetness and drama. The opulent embroidery added an undeniably extravagant feel. Oh to waltz into the room in one of those numbers!
  • **Dior's ready-to-wear show offered up an entirely new take on the tutu.** The pieces were definitely more urban, incorporating tulle in surprisingly casual pieces like a black tulle skirt worn with a plain white shirt. Definitely more street-chic than dance floor, this line spoke to those who appreciate the artistry of the tutu, without the overt theatricality. Chic, cool, and understated โ€“ all whilst offering a surprising level of feminine edge.

It was wonderful to see so many diverse ways that the tutu was interpreted this August. As ever, it proved itself a timeless symbol of elegance, grace, and, of course, pure artistry. It's clear: the tutu remains a powerful sartorial statement. And I wouldnโ€™t have it any other way.
