The Ballet-Inspired Fashion That Won This Month

As the sun finally starts to feel the warmth of Spring, it's a time for lighter fabrics and floral hues, so I am not surprised that the most celebrated outfits from this month's ballets embrace this sense of light heartedness.

I saw some absolutely stunning tutus at the
*The Royal Ballet* 's "Swan Lake." The tulle is so fine and sheer, so graceful it seems to shimmer. It flows and moves beautifully as the dancers twirl, each individual strand catching the stage light with ethereal beauty.

It’s very rare these days to see an entirely classic tutu as fashion seems to favour the bold and modern. And while the "Swan Lake" costumes didn't break away completely from convention, I think they achieved something incredibly stylish with just a small nod to the unexpected. The skirt length was so daring! Right below the hip - the ultimate modern ballet look. That gave the tutu an edgy coolness - making those classic ballet movements even more dynamic. The costumes made those long, sleek limbs of the dancers seem longer! I even saw the dancers wearing tulle-like fabrics as leotards. Stunning. What a beautiful nod to modern ballet’s embrace of fabric.

For those looking for an authentic vintage ballet style, I couldn’t have recommended The Bolshoi Ballet's "Giselle" more highly this month, the delicate pastel-pink and lilac color scheme were a nod to Victorian era with modern flair. It was almost as if the romantic era had been brought right back into the 21st century in an effortlessly modern way.

Let’s not forget those beautiful tulle skirts featured in the ballet ‘Coppelia’, They just whispered ‘high fashion’ – with a definite vintage touch - all worn with leotards that looked almost futuristic! But what impressed me most were the beautifully designed bodices with the delicate ribbons on those bodices made those gorgeous costumes so modern, and of course so feminine.
