Ballet Tutu Fashion and Style at www pink tutu com

Dearest readers, The recent ballets this month have been an absolute delight to witness and what has been truly inspiring is the costume design - truly captivating! It has been the tutu that has stolen my attention and I couldn’t resist sharing some of the highlights from these stellar performances.

The Royal Ballet’s production of Giselle was truly breath-taking. The classical tutu design was a study in grace and elegance and so in keeping with the spirit of this much-loved production, and the airy tulle used in this ethereal piece created a sense of floating on air for the beautiful corps de ballet. I especially admired the delicate and delicate detailing on the tutu it gave a truly feminine touch to an otherwise simple silhouette. It gave the dancers a truly effortless movement.

At the English National Ballet, La Bayadere was visually stunning. The detail that was evident in the tutu's for the temple dancers with the traditional, layers and layers of soft tulle, in deep, rich colour, highlighted by the embellishments were stunning. The effect on stage was magical. It is clear this production has been intricately planned from a costume point of view.

I do love a traditional tutu but it's always refreshing to see a contemporary twist on this classic design. The Northern Ballet's new production of Sleeping Beauty was a modern and inventive vision with it’s tutu for the title role. Gone were the yards of tulle, and the layered silhouette instead was replaced with a more sleek line of netting with interesting cuts, that gave a powerful feel that truly evoked this iconic role. It was an innovative piece.

It appears to me that the ballet world has moved on, yet, they are staying faithful to their traditions with so many amazing pieces coming up this month, my attention will be fully focused on the ballet tutus – that’s for sure!
