Tutus, Oh Tutus! May 2001.
Well, darlings, this month has certainly seen a veritable flurry of tutus! Such a delightful spectacle! The latest season, as ever, has been an absolute dream, and the tutus have certainly been leading the way.
- Now, I was absolutely tickled pink by the Giselle revival at Covent Garden! The sheer, airy tutus in the first act were simply exquisite, swirling and ethereal, as light as a whisper. And those bodices! Oh, darling, so tightly fitted! You could almost hear a sigh of appreciation ripple through the stalls, I tell you!
- The Royal Ballet's new production of The Sleeping Beauty offered a truly modern twist. The tutus were shorter than Iโm accustomed to โ a daring move, to be sure โ but they retained the grandeur and beauty of the classical tradition. It was almost as if they were whispering, "Oh darling, you know me so well!".
- Now, the highlight of the month for me has to be the Bolshoi's breathtaking rendition of Swan Lake! Those glorious white tutus โ so pristine, so regal! โ simply stole the show. One could hardly believe the perfection of every feather and stitch!
But you know me, darling, always on the hunt for the truly unique! So I was absolutely smitten by the custom-made tutus for the new contemporary ballet, "Beyond the Mirror," by the Scottish Ballet. Made entirely of recycled plastic, these beauties brought an undeniable edge and eco-consciousness to the stage! Quite brilliant, simply brilliant.
As a collector myself, you can trust my taste in tutus, and I am sure we'll see these innovative creations become all the rage!
You know me, my darlings. It's all about that exquisite combination of classic grace and a daring dash of โoh-la-la!"!
