Ballet Tutu Fashion and Style at www pink tutu com

Oh darling, the world of ballet has been positively humming this month! From the opulence of the Bolshoi to the edgy brilliance of Nederlands Dans Theater, there's something for every tastebud - and, naturally, I've been on hand to savour it all. Let's raise a glass of chilled Bollinger to February's ballet delights, shall we?

A Parisian Affair

First, I simply *had* to see the much-hyped revival of **"Giselle"** at the Paris Opera Ballet. The story of love, betrayal, and, well, death, has always resonated with me. And, my darlings, this production truly lived up to the hype. The sheer beauty of the choreography, particularly the "mad scene" in Act II, had me in tears. And, let's be honest, what can be more romantic than a Parisian setting for this most romantic of ballets? As for the dancers, a real standout was the divine Dorothée Gilbert, so heartbreakingly tender as Giselle. Truly, a performance that would make even the most hardened heart melt.

The Bolshoi Back in Black

My next stop was the Bolshoi in Moscow. And, dear readers, if you want opulence, look no further. It's like stepping back in time. For this visit, I opted for a performance of **"Swan Lake"**. Don't even get me started on the costumes, it was truly breathtaking! A symphony of feathers and tutus that even the most demanding fashionista would adore. And then there's the sheer athleticism of the Bolshoi dancers, a masterclass in grace and power, simply breathtaking. Of course, the Bolshoi is known for its male dancers and this time was no different, a true standout being David Hallberg, as the Prince, oozing both tenderness and princely confidence.

Bold New Directions in Amsterdam

Now, let's move onto something a bit more contemporary, shall we? I found myself in Amsterdam, that most charming of cities, for a taste of Nederlands Dans Theater. My pick was their production of **"Second Breath"** by Paul Lightfoot. A bold, dynamic piece, showcasing a stunning array of talent, from the young, fiery, new recruits to the more seasoned veterans, they danced with such freedom, it felt liberating. I particularly enjoyed the way it mixed a modern ballet style with elements of hip-hop and urban dance. So edgy, so chic, I simply *adore* the direction of Dutch contemporary ballet.

From London's West End to Royal Ballet

And then I'm off to London, naturally! My week was divided between the glittering world of West End musicals and the refined grandeur of the Royal Ballet. **"The Phantom of the Opera"**, a perennial favourite, was pure nostalgia for me. Those spectacular sets and the heart-wrenching tale, all while I tucked into the theatre's divine chocolate brownies. Bliss. The Royal Ballet, my dear friends, presented a real treat for the month. **"Sleeping Beauty"** with its intricate choreography, and captivating storyline made for a sublime evening, especially with the gorgeous Viviane Dutheil as Aurora. She absolutely owns that stage, making her every move a visual treat. But you simply *must* check out the costumes! Magnificent.

More Adventures In The U.S.A

A whistle-stop tour of America was next on my agenda, where I was eager to experience ballet in its truest, most innovative form. I simply *must* tell you about the phenomenal **"A.I"** performance at the New York City Ballet, It’s bold, unconventional, a whirlwind of cutting-edge choreography that was so compelling and mesmerizing. It was both moving and truly distinctive in its ability to challenge you. Oh, and if you ever want to see sheer talent, look no further than American Ballet Theatre's **"Don Quixote".** My goodness, those ballerinas - just so spectacular and athletic! That finale - pure magic! The finale was pure energy and just brilliant. You simply must check them out! But oh my, how I crave for another of those divine NYB "A.I" performances!

Oh, to be a dancer, wouldn't you agree?

I simply can't wait for next month's dance-filled adventures. After all, my dear readers, I simply cannot get enough. But you just wait! The ballet scene is always changing. We are seeing a beautiful and evolving form of dance, so much experimentation, but yet so much honouring of the past.

As always, keep those ballet shoes on the tip-toes and I’ll see you soon.

With love and a graceful curtsey,

Olivia.

More Delights from the Dance World

  • National Ballet of Canada. A breath of fresh air. They are currently showing "Romeo & Juliet" A truly romantic tale, well executed. But be sure to catch a glimpse of their gorgeous costumes for the Royal Court scene.
  • San Francisco Ballet. They presented a world premiere of "**The Raven"** with breathtaking choreography and storytelling.
  • Dutch National Ballet. I adored "**Giselle"**, The stage setting was gorgeous. But it is the performance by the divine, the one and only, Polina Semionova which simply elevates this ballet to such high levels. Don't miss her!

You just never know, but you should know one thing - Ballet, in all its forms, is truly thrilling! And it will continue to be the one true art that moves us like no other.
