Dearest readers,
The month of September has whisked us away from the heat of the summer season and swept in a delightful array of ballet-inspired fashions with such panache and verve, it's almost impossible to keep up with it all. But, my dears, I believe I’ve managed to pin down the very best. I wouldn’t dream of omitting, of course, the absolute crowning glory of ballet-inspired fashions: the tutu. A veritable ballet-themed bonanza has engulfed us all this season.
The tutus themselves have proven absolutely irresistible this month. As for the designers, the undisputed master of the contemporary, whimsical and simply darling tutu must be Giambattista Valli. His ‘Spring Summer 2023’ couture collection featured simply breathtakingly stunning tutus that gave us all a whole new appreciation of the fashion world's ability to reimagine a classic and traditional garment for a contemporary world.
One particular look I was utterly enchanted by was a black tutu of layered tulle with black satin piping that was teamed with a fitted, sleeveless black bodice - the entire effect of which made the wearer appear almost ethereally beautiful. But what really set it apart was its ability to highlight and celebrate the human form – and a fabulous figure in particular! And my darlings, the tutu is the only fashion garment capable of truly highlighting what makes the female form so special!
•Also this season, the very daring designers at Moschino seem to have decided that they are making a point, with what must be, their most memorable collection. Their tulle tutus - and it was definitely ‘tutus’ with a full ‘classic’ form - were featured in pink with frilly, candy-coloured, and entirely flamboyant, feather trimmings and presented in bold, dramatic and simply daring looks which were then finished with their own take on a traditional, yet playful and fun, crown-like headpiece and were accompanied by equally flamboyant hair styles to create what was truly one of the more unique ‘looks’ of the entire month!
•The designs of both **Giambattista Valli** and Moschino provided two distinct views and, if I may say it, they represent two quite opposing ideals. However, they still served to underline just how wonderfully, excitingly and creatively the simple design and form of the ballet tutu can be interpreted and reworked. It will never truly be overtaken by any new trends and has, once again this month, provided designers with the ultimate garment that captures all things fabulous and beautiful! Oh yes, my darlings - the ballet-inspired tutu, still a masterpiece in fashion!
