Ballet Tutu Fashion and Style at www pink tutu com

Darling, it's been a scorching summer, hasn't it? But the heat hasn't dimmed the flame of the dance world, and there have been so many delightful delights to see! So, grab a glass of something chilled, slip into your most fabulous frock and settle in, as I whisk you through a whirl of balletic brilliance from across the globe.

Paris, the City of Love, Still Holds its Dance Floor

There's just something about Paris, isn't there? Itā€™s where ballet truly blossomed into something divine. And the Palais Garnier was a riot of sequins and whimsy as the Paris Opera Ballet presented its Gala de lā€™OpĆ©ra. The line-up was utterly divine - think Ć©toiles and premiers! This year was extra special with Marie-AgnĆØs Gillot making a return to the stage, her elegant lines and captivating expressiveness melting even the most cynical critic's heart.

It wasn't all star-studded spectacle though - I was especially enchanted by a piece called "Lā€™Appel du Vertige", choreographed by the utterly-gorgeous Guillaume CĆ“tĆ©. This work, with its contemporary styling and hypnotic movement, truly showcased the sheer talent and athleticism of the Paris Opera corps. You see, dear reader, it's not just about pirouettes, there's so much more to ballet!

Rome in Bloom - An Open-Air Ballet Feast

Iā€™ve been aching to travel, havenā€™t you? But while Iā€™ve been waiting to get my hands on my passport and head off on an Italian escapade, the Teatro dellā€™Opera di Roma presented ā€œRomeo & Julietā€ in a breathtaking outdoor setting! And darling, it really was the most heavenly performance! You can imagine: the moon casting shadows on the Colosseum's ancient stone, a sky glittering with stars, and the tender love story of Shakespeareā€™s young lovers unfolding in such a majestic space. The cast was superb, especially the two leading roles, they truly stole the show.

From Moscow to Milan - A Tango Twist!

Ah, Milan! The fashion capital! So, imagine my surprise when the Teatro alla Scala presented a completely unconventional performance - a tango ballet, "Tango Inferno". This exhilarating piece brought a whole new level of passion and intensity to the stage. Think blazing, passionate tango, fiery rhythms, and stunning costumes - it truly was a feast for the senses! And to think it was created by the esteemed Russian dancer and choreographer Sergei Polunin! The man is simply genius.

I do love a bit of Moscow drama too - and the Bolshoi Theatre had something really special to offer this summer! It was the premiere of "The Golden Age" and my goodness, what an utterly sumptuous, opulent show it was! You could smell the luxurious sets and feel the drama. If thereā€™s any justice in the world, the lead ballerina, Svetlana Zakharova, should be getting accolades everywhere. She's breathtaking! And the sheer grandeur of it all just made for a completely unforgettable evening.

Beyond the Classic, The Edinburgh Fringe - The Wild and The Wonderful

Now, for something entirely different - the Edinburgh Fringe! A wild, wacky world of creativity. I just canā€™t resist an oddball dance experience every now and then. The sheer experimental edge it brings to the world of ballet is just wonderful. This year saw the premiere of "Dance on the Edge", a fantastic performance where five talented dancers moved between the classic and contemporary, incorporating elements of theatre, visual art, and even a bit of cabaret - the entire experience was just so liberating! It was as if the world of dance just broke free of its chains, a joyous celebration of individuality. The whole affair was a little messy and utterly enchanting.

And the Brits, Always Stealing the Show

Of course, the Royal Ballet is always a must-see, my darling. But this summer's run of ā€œSwan Lake" at the Royal Opera House felt even more magical than usual. I swear, you could feel the magic swirling in the air, and those costumes - they were to die for! You just couldn't tear your eyes away! And then, there's the talent of the dancers. A phenomenal talent. Especially the principals - a symphony of beauty, grace, and virtuosity - simply enchanting.

However, the really unexpected surprise was a production at Sadlerā€™s Wells - a small, quirky theatre, darling, but one that consistently serves up the best independent companies! ā€œBody Language", by a contemporary ballet company, had me completely enthralled. It was a commentary on the human condition, delivered with an energy that simply exploded off the stage! And there was an emotional depth to it all - the dancers were so emotionally charged! It's a masterpiece!

So Much to Dance About, So Little Time!

So much has happened in the dance world, I canā€™t possibly cover it all in this little write-up, dear reader. From the opulent and lavish grand stages to the intimate spaces of small theaters, the world of ballet is as exciting and dynamic as ever. I can't wait to see what the new season brings.

But For Now - Dress Up, Put On Some Tunes, and Dance

As we sip our teas, darling, Iā€™ll leave you with this: Go see a show, take yourself to the theatre, and remember the joy of dance. You donā€™t need a stage to enjoy it - turn on a record, put on a dress that makes you feel utterly magnificent and just let yourself go! I simply cannot wait to catch you at my next review!
