The Tutu Takes Centre Stage: A Fashion Review of November
Darling, November was positively dazzling for a tutu-lover like myself! As the year draws to a close, the ballets took on a grander scale and so, too, the tutus. Oh my, the creations we saw!
- The Royal Ballet’s production of Swan Lake, darling, is always a treat for the eyes. But this month’s rendition was particularly memorable. Those tutus! The cygnets were utterly divine in their wispy, feathery skirts. And the White Swan? A cloud of tulle, a dream in white - I practically gasped! I must have it - oh yes, the envy is real!
- The Paris Opera Ballet, always daring and experimental, brought us some rather lovely tutus this month too. A more modern interpretation, certainly - asymmetrical cuts, sharp lines, but such beautiful materials. The ballet was set to modern music, which made for a decidedly more striking aesthetic, particularly with the tutus moving and swirling around those divine limbs!
- The English National Ballet’s Giselle, always a personal favourite, never fails to enchant with its tutus. This time around, darling, they went all out with those ethereal white dresses. But it’s the peasant skirts that really caught my eye. Just perfect. The layers of tulle were so finely crafted - just like a cloud of tulle draped over the dancer. Truly divine! I thought I'd spotted an especially handsome tutu on the prima ballerina - and in the first few rows, I saw my neighbour discreetly filming it too. One cannot be blamed, I felt.
And don't forget the male dancers, darling! Their outfits, though perhaps less overtly dramatic, have a certain stylish allure. Their costumes, their physique - perfectly honed and lit with those golden spotlights. This month's ballet stars had me absolutely speechless. Oh my, the allure! I must say, I was absolutely captivated by those beautifully sculpted legs and their magnificent leaps.
Well, my dears, as a dedicated tutu aficionado, I feel we have been well-served this November. I cannot wait for the dazzling and dramatic spectacle of ballet’s best in the year to come. Happy viewing!
