Here at La Ballerina, we have been keeping our discerning eyes firmly fixed on the runways and the ballets themselves to bring you the definitive, delectable digest of December's hottest trends.
The Tutu Tales- Gone are the days of the rigid, symmetrical tutus of yore! This season is all about fluidic movement and ethereal elegance. Think wispy, multi-layered tulle, almost like spun sugar, with asymmetrical edges. This effect was beautifully showcased in the new production of Giselle, where the ballerinas literally shimmered as they danced.
- We are positively besotted with the statement-making "deconstructed" tutu, where the classic form is reimagined in an innovative way. We saw sheer, gauzy panels cascading down like a graceful waterfall in Swan Lake, and a modern interpretation of Don Quixote featured a tutu constructed with deconstructed panels of fabric, each a different colour, reflecting the vibrant energy of the Spanish culture.
- The classic, full-bodied, romantic tutu is back, but with a chic twist. Intricate beading, delicate lace details, and the subtlest hints of metallic threads elevate these traditional tutus to a whole new level of sophisticated femininity.
But of course, it’s not just about the tutu, darling. The entire ballet look has received a modern makeover, and we’re seeing elegantly cut leotards, statement jewellery, and sleek, sophisticated hair styles.
