Leotard Fashion in Prestwich: A Dancer’s Guide to the Perfect Fit #leotardfashion
Hey there, fashion-forward dancers and gymnasts! This week I'm diving into the world of leotards, and sharing my top picks for looking fabulous both in the studio and out and about in Prestwich. As a dancer and blogger, I’m always on the hunt for the perfect leotard: one that’s comfortable, stylish, and makes me feel confident in my own skin. Leotards have really come into their own lately and have taken the high street by storm. So whether you're training for your next big performance or just looking to upgrade your workout wardrobe, I've got you covered.
First, let’s talk about fit: it's crucial that your leotard fits like a glove! A leotard that’s too big or too small can hinder your flexibility and comfort. The best leotard will feel like a second skin. Don’t be scared of colour. You can embrace pops of colour or patterns – this can bring so much personality to a simple outfit. But remember to keep in mind the colour and shade of your tights too.
And remember – there’s so much more to #leotardfashion than just your standard dancewear. This year, I’ve noticed more and more of my fellow dancers mixing and matching leotards and leggings – and don’t get me started on the rise of leotards as casual wear. Don’t be afraid to wear a leotard with denim jacket, or pair it with a comfy skirt for that trendy look.
Let’s move onto fabrics. Let's be real: we all know that leotard fabrics vary. From the more traditional nylon to a mix of lycra, mesh, and even velvet – you need to make sure your choice of leotard is up for the challenge. Here are my tips:
Leotard Fabrics:- Nylon - This one is the standard, durable fabric – it has a really great fit and you can get it in all sorts of colours, prints and textures, and even more reasonably priced!
- Lycra – Another one of my faves. It’s stretchable and moves with your body and tends to have great colour retention so you know it won't fade after just a couple of washes. This one is good for long hours in the studio.
- Mesh - Great for adding that element of chic. I love a leotard with mesh detail – perfect for a dance performance or even just some exercise in the studio. Mesh is pretty breathable and light as well – but make sure to check that the seams won't unravel.
- Velvet - Now we're talking. The return of velvet leotards is super on trend. You get an amazing, classic feel and some brands have super high quality velvety material that just feels good. Plus it always gets you the compliments. Just be careful – they're often on the expensive side and don’t go for a cheaper alternative. And always look out for a longer length if you want to style this with leggings – think the trend with velvet tracksuits.
One final thought: Leotard styling goes hand in hand with what you're pairing it with, You know, a pair of tights. And tights have come a long way since the days of simple black nylon. The amount of different designs – fishnets, floral patterns, neon colours, stripes – there's so much choice for dance. Or maybe you want to take it to a different level and embrace that nude-toned option. Even better, how about coloured tights – green, burgundy or blue? Get creative and mix and match with the textures of leotards and embrace this year's colour trends! It will make all the difference when putting together your outfits.
Remember those famous dance tutus? Well, leotards have got their own twist on those designs, and I think this is a really important aspect of leotard fashion.
Leotard and Tutu styles:- Ballet - I have to include the classic: your traditional dance ballet leotard with the simple design. Some have the pretty detailing on the front – mesh cut outs, a beautiful V neck, straps or an interesting neckline – think simple elegance.
- Romantic - This type is more for a lyrical look – think soft colours and materials and often has frills, ruching and sometimes even little embellishments such as lace. This is one that I find very popular in classes across Manchester, where lots of the ballet schools are located. It's also a good trend if you want to show a more elegant look as it does work as casual wear as well. And you’ve guessed it: It pairs perfectly with an elegant pair of leggings!
- Modern - And lastly, don't forget about that more fitted look, which you often see in modern dance, lyrical dance, or even contemporary dance. These have got some bolder details with mesh panels on the side, back or maybe the chest, some nice straps, cut outs and a wider, sportier style neckline.
But as with any fashion item – look around. I am definitely not saying that these are the only types, as we've already mentioned that the rise of leotards into more everyday fashion has brought many more stylish ideas!
It’s exciting to see the ways #leotardfashion has been reinvented. This year, I’ve spotted leotards as casual wear for a weekend shopping trip, out for dinner or a night out. So take that look and adapt it for yourself: embrace those colours, embrace that different neckline or design and you can definitely rock that leotard trend! I've tried them all out myself - they've made such an impact in the gym as well as for brunch. Leotards are becoming a mainstay and are making such a statement in our fashionable worlds.
