Leotard Fashion in Shenley Brook End: #leotardfashion
Hey everyone, it's your girl, Grace, back with another fashion post! As a ballet dancer and gymnast, leotards are basically my uniform, and let me tell you, the world of leotards is evolving faster than a pirouette. You can’t swing a cat in a dance studio or gym without seeing the latest, and dare I say, hottest trends, and honestly, it's about time the leotard gets the attention it deserves!
We're taking things up a notch in the world of #leotardfashion. Shenley Brook End, where I live, has become a veritable hub of chic and stylish leotards that not only move beautifully, but look fabulous too. Gone are the days of the plain, old-school black leotard; think shimmering mesh, pops of neon, and those cheeky, flattering cuts – even cut outs are making a bold appearance, which isn’t something you would expect on a leotard! Who knew leotard fashion could be so edgy, stylish and totally in tune with the latest trends? You could practically rock up to a catwalk in these amazing outfits, I’ve seen some leotards so amazing, it could definitely be styled up and worn out! And I can’t forget tutus, those whimsical pieces of ballet wardrobe! From fluffy and soft tulle to sharp and chic, I've seen some amazing creations, they're a big, part of my #leotardfashion wardrobe. So let's dive into what makes the leotards of Shenley Brook End truly stand out, shall we?
Let's talk Colour!
- The first thing I notice when browsing through my local shops, is that colours have gone bonkers in leotard land! Gone are the days of plain black and pink, though these colours are still timeless classics, but if you're looking to stand out from the crowd (who isn't?!), you can find every colour imaginable! Imagine the beautiful rich hues of purple, electric green, sapphire blue and even vibrant yellows and oranges! So, if you’re feeling bold, channel your inner rainbow and find a colour that totally reflects your personality.
- Remember how pastels were making a comeback? Well, they've fully made their way into the leotard fashion scene, providing that ethereal, romantic and airy aesthetic. You can find pastel pinks, mint greens, and baby blues that are utterly dreamy. I’ve been loving lilac in leotard form - the lilac shade is super sophisticated yet still feels playful! So yeah, colour is seriously getting creative.
- Another favourite? Bold block colours - bright scarlet, turquoise and royal blue - make a dramatic and powerful statement. I’ve even seen leotards that have interesting colour combinations – maybe turquoise and crimson, or violet and yellow – a real eye-catching colour fusion, I really feel it elevates leotard fashion.
Leotard Detailing - You can’t go wrong with a touch of something special
- Embroidery and Patterns: My latest obsession? Leotards with a touch of embroidered detail or some funky pattern. Floral motifs, geometric patterns, or abstract swirls - you name it, it's on leotards, It’s adding a luxurious look, that doesn't scream out at you, but you can’t help but notice. You'll find that this kind of detail makes a plain leotard become really glam.
- Cut Outs: If you like to make a statement, these are definitely a go-to! Leotards with strategic cut outs, be it on the shoulders, back, or sides, make your movements so much more dramatic in class, especially on pointe shoes! Think sexy but sleek and totally sporty. And when it comes to dance, cut-outs mean you're letting those graceful, and strong lines of your body shine, it's so striking!
- Mesh and Sequins: A must have in the #leotardfashion wardrobe is a shimmering, sparkly, or just plain bling leotard! It's fun and you'll have all eyes on you during class. Whether it’s mesh panels that peek through for an extra dash of sensuality, or a complete shimmery sequined bodice - these elements really bring a whole new dimension to leotard style! It's about elegance and giving that touch of glamor to an already glamorous garment!
But, Let's be honest...the cut makes all the difference, when it comes to leotard fashion
- Strapless leotards: They’re definitely having a moment. They offer a super chic look, plus it can be super versatile in class, and you’ll look super sleek and confident wearing a strapless leotard. The classic lines mean you show off those shoulders.
- Sleeveless, Classic, V-Neck: You can’t beat the classics - a sleek V-neck leotard, the classic, it’s the epitome of sophistication and simplicity, a real favourite of mine! And it’s totally functional - it makes me look streamlined and I don’t feel restricted while I’m dancing or exercising. A sleeveless option is also very versatile, if I need to stay warm during those colder months.
- Cap-Sleeve: An on-trend option – especially for dance or yoga - a cap-sleeve offers coverage and style! I find they really accentuate your arms in a beautiful, flattering way! And depending on the fabric choice, a cap-sleeve can add a more classic vibe or feel really contemporary. You can really play with this look!
- High-Leg Styles: For my dancewear and especially gymnastics wear - high-leg cuts really give an air of elegance and elegance. And if I am going for that sporty look, this style is my absolute fave. This leotard cut allows for maximum freedom to move and, as a gymnast, it’s a vital cut for that look, especially in floor routine - so versatile and very stylish!
- Tutu Styles: Oh, tutu styles - this area of #leotardfashion is totally booming right now, and there’s an array of tutus from classical ballet tutus with the fluffy layers of tulle to the chic, more streamlined tutus worn in contemporary ballet - I find them all absolutely mesmerizing! Some have the full skirts, some have asymmetrical styles, with just a touch of tulle and a little extra dramatic edge - and even modern and contemporary style tutues with more angular cuts that bring a really powerful feel! You can really take your outfit to another level with these striking creations - tutus truly embody the magical world of #leotardfashion and make a real statement!
It's Not Just About Fashion - Fabric is key
A leotard can be stylish, but let's talk about functionality, a leotard must work as well as look great. And let's face it, in the world of #leotardfashion - we want to have comfort, and stretchy fabrics that give maximum mobility.
- Nylon: My go-to – it’s known for its smooth, silky finish and how light and breathable it is, making it ideal for high impact activities, even yoga! I’ve got loads of nylon leotards in my collection - perfect for a sleek and streamlined look! It also washes like a dream, too!
- Lycra: You can't go wrong with Lycra - a staple for dance and gymnasts all over. It's extremely stretchy and super comfortable, it has a really comfortable fit and provides excellent movement freedom.
- Mesh: When I’m looking for a slightly cooler option, especially for hotter weather or dance sessions, a leotard made of mesh, provides ventilation. I also like it for the sleek style it provides - I've seen some gorgeous mesh panels in different colours and fabrics that look absolutely amazing when they are used as design features - the visual impact is amazing! It adds that contemporary feel too.
- Cotton: Cotton is great, it tends to be really soft and easy to move around in. It is a popular option for leotards used in dance class or pilates, as the fabric is very breathable. I have cotton leotards in my collection - I love wearing them in classes where I am going to be working up a sweat! The soft feel makes all the difference, it's super comfy to wear and great for absorbing moisture.
It’s a leotard world - what next for #leotardfashion
With trends changing and new materials popping up it looks like #leotardfashion has a bright future. As for my style choices? I am constantly evolving as a dancer and a fashion blogger - the creative boundaries are always changing.
