Leotard Fashion in Streatham: A Guide for the Modern Dancer Let's talk leotards. It's been a while since I’ve popped in for a chat on here, so apologies to all you beautiful dancers out there who’ve been wondering what I’m up to! But, I’m back with a BANG! With a special focus on our essential outfit, and where you can buy all the chic leos around, all for your dance wear and general ‘go to’ fashion. And yes, we'll be taking the fun far beyond the barre and onto the street (although you could wear them on the street if you’re that fabulous)! Today, I’m taking us to Streatham - south London, all the way from the suburbs to the stylish spots where you can find a killer leotard, and more importantly, how you can use them to achieve all sorts of looks! #leotardfashion #leotardstyle
Let's face it, there’s so much variety out there nowadays and the whole leotard, bodysuit thing, has become, well, EVERYTHING! Remember those days of just ballet pink? We've come a long way since, my friends. And for that reason, the classic leotard, is so very adaptable, and I can't even begin to tell you how much I love seeing so many fashion houses embracing this classic design! Whether it's in a striking satin finish for a dramatic night out, or with a sheer panel for a romantic date, it is the perfect piece of wardrobe inspiration. Here are some of the coolest places in Streatham to snag yourself the leotard of your dreams and the looks you can rock with them… •  Streatham's Favourite Dancewear Shop So we’re starting with one of my go-to spots - it’s called ‘Twirling Times' on Streatham High Road. These guys are literally dance wear gurus and they stock the best leotards I've seen - so comfy, yet totally fashion forward! This place has everything for all dancers – even those tutu style leotards which are amazing. The staff is so friendly and knowledgeable, so don’t be afraid to ask for their advice! • The Latest Trends: What to Look for in Leotard Style And when it comes to style tips… what should we be looking for? First of all, look for designs that are cut in flattering and contemporary ways! They might have cutouts on the shoulders, a flattering plunging neckline or even an intricate back detail! Remember though that some of the trendier designs don’t actually work that well if you are in class, so make sure you test drive your latest pick before a big class or recital! But, hey! The good news is they’re so stylish and modern you can definitely rock them to that cool cocktail party or bar. • Pairing Leotards: For That Night-Out Look As you probably already know by now, we can pair leotards with anything! To start you off – the classic pairing would be a black leotard. Now black is an easy win but the way you can style black depends on your confidence and how far you’d like to push that daring side of you… but black leotards will always be the safest pick to get you started! If we’re keeping it casual, for those weekend brunches or quick shops, we’re thinking leggings, a cute knit jumper (one with a V neck, to show off your leotard’s neckline) or even a denim jacket and a few fashion sneakers. To switch things up a bit, think satin, black leotards, paired with tailored, elegant black trousers – add in some heels and the ultimate chic look for that party or date night - or even if you just fancy going out on a weekend! The look you achieve with the leotard is going to be all about the way you pull it off. Another look, try adding a little drama: team the classic black leotard with a statement belt or a flowing scarf or some statement earrings for a dash of flair. **#leotardfashion #leotardstyle**
• Bringing Leotards to Life With Colour Black and white are staples, no doubt, but my ultimate favorite leotards are the colorful ones! Just be sure they suit your skin tone, your personality, and then, embrace those striking bright shades! I just love wearing colorful ones because it’s a way of expressing myself. The perfect splash of colour or the vibrant colour of choice to show off your mood for the day. And you can easily go back and forth. For a bright, energetic and sassy leotard style, consider bold colours – fuchsia pink, electrifying blue, even an ultra bright yellow – it’s your time to shine! Pair it with tailored shorts, a fitted skirt or jeans to complete that contemporary edge to your look, with that urban touch! • Beyond the Leotard: A Few Extra Styling Secrets To round this off… one final thing! It's important to accessorise properly. To finish off your look you should be looking at fun shoes (chunky platforms, heels, fashion trainers or boots – yes you heard that right, boots – even chunky boots!). It's about finding something that completes your unique style. Don't forget, fashion is about embracing your individuality and making your outfit feel completely, genuinely you! So there you have it – Streatham is one of those places that I believe gives you an abundance of possibilities! Remember that, there's no wrong way to rock a leotard - have fun, be fearless, and let your confidence shine through! I’ll be back soon with a full run through of the dance shoes and the essential dance bags we’ve all got to be wearing now. In the meantime, make sure you show us how you’ve styled those leotards, tweet us on Instagram, post pictures and don't forget to add #leotardfashion to your next outfit pic – who knows – your look might end up featured here! #leotardfashion #leotardstyle
