Pink Tutu Time Travels: 28 - The Birth of Ballet as We Know It! 🩰✨

Hello lovelies! Emma here, your resident pink tutu-wearing time traveller, and welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com, the only blog dedicated to all things ballet – past, present, and future! Today, I’m venturing back to the 1600s – to 4th April, 1663, to be exact! Why this date, you ask? Because my darling tutus and I are heading to the very birthplace of ballet as we know it! Let's grab a cuppa and put on some Tchaikovsky, because it’s going to be a glamorous adventure!

Now, I know what you’re thinking, darling. Ballet has always been around, right? Wrong! While ancient dance forms paved the way, ballet, the majestic spectacle we adore today, with its leaps and turns, graceful lines and enchanting narratives, is a very, very recent invention.

To celebrate this momentous occasion, I had to travel all the way back to France! Fancy that, darling. Our chariot of choice this time is the lovely Magic Meg, a pink sparkly Shire horse with golden hooves and a white mane that flows like a dancer's skirt. We rode through rolling countryside and picturesque villages before finally reaching our destination – the Royal Palace in Paris. And you know what I saw, darlings? A beautiful dance spectacle, performed for none other than the King of France, Louis XIV!

But there's more to this than just a royal fancy! It seems Louis XIV was rather taken with this elegant art form, declaring a passion for dance and establishing a very special company – The Académie Royale de Danse. Now we're talking! Imagine, this was the official beginning of ballet as an institution! This was the day when the art form was recognised for its beauty, its skill, and its place in society. It was an amazing moment in time.

You know, I got the chance to peek backstage and you wouldn't believe it! Imagine: the ballerinas, adorned in lavish costumes and wigs, were rehearsing with such artistry, passion, and precision. Such elegance and refinement! You can see why the King himself wanted to establish a royal school dedicated to it, no wonder ballet would take the world by storm.

What did the ballerinas look like? Imagine! They were dressed in stunning floor-length garments, the sleeves and bodice fitted to the figure, the skirt a vast swirling masterpiece of silk and lace! Oh darling, you just can’t imagine how fabulous these creations were. Imagine, dear reader, what it would be like to live in an era of powdered wigs, silk costumes, and exquisite footwork – the excitement, the prestige, the beauty! It's like a dream!

As I stand amidst the history unfolding around me, I can't help but wonder what Louis XIV would say about the state of ballet today! I know he would appreciate the continued growth and innovation, but he might be surprised at how many of us, across the globe, dance in pink tutus. He would surely have a wonderful time in our modern world. Just think – our modern ballerinas, our contemporary dance scenes, the incredible theatre experiences! Imagine our glittering costumes and stage lights, all showcasing this beautiful art form! He would be very proud, I think! I know I'm incredibly proud. And so excited to be spreading the pink tutu love and getting everyone on board!

And of course, I've got some fabulous treasures from my journey! Imagine! In my leather rucksack, I’ve collected a delicate piece of embroidery from the King's garment, a drawing of the dance performed that night, and a snippet of dialogue about this revolutionary event. It’s all going into my private ballet time travel collection back in my little cottage in Derbyshire – surrounded by dancing ballerinas, pink tutus, and all things beautiful! This experience, and all the beauty I’ve witnessed, will be immortalized within my pages for years to come, dear reader!

I just can't wait to show off these gems when I'm performing on stage! You know how I love my ballet and it’s the perfect way to earn a bit to fund my time travel adventures. My upcoming show in London is shaping up beautifully! All the tutus are sparkling like the finest diamonds, and my shoes have never looked so divine! The only thing more glorious will be my own rendition of a classic French ballet – a tribute to Louis XIV and the birth of ballet itself.

Come join me, darling! There’s no other time travel experience like this, no other pink tutu adventures as magical as this! It's like a fairytale!

Remember to follow my time travel blog on Pink-Tutu.com. See you next time for another glorious escapade! And remember, keep dancing in your pink tutu, darling, because ballet is forever! 💖

Emma.
