Ballet Time Travel Blog: Post #79 – A Date With Destiny (1667, July 7th)

Hey darlings! It's Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood ballet-loving time traveller, ready to whisk you away on another enchanting journey through history. This month, I'm taking us back to 1667, specifically 7th July. I just adore this era; it was such a pivotal point for ballet, you know. Imagine a time before pointe shoes, when the art form was still taking its first tentative steps! But I promise you, dear readers, the stories we'll uncover today are full of grace, excitement, and just the right touch of pink…

A Pink-Perfect Partnership

My trusted steed, Magic Meg, was pawing the ground impatiently this morning. She knows we’re heading somewhere fabulous! A glistening pink shire with golden hooves and a mane and tail as white as freshly fallen snow, Magic Meg loves ballet almost as much as I do. We even colour-coordinate – today, her pink ribbon matches my blush-toned tutu perfectly. (It’s my newest creation, by the way, just slightly shimmery.)

Today’s adventure requires us to go all the way to France. This country always had such a big impact on ballet, and trust me, you won't want to miss this date!

A Parisian Dream

Now, when I say France, I don't mean the modern-day city. We’re venturing back to Paris in the 17th century! I love stepping back into these old times, you get a sense of just how new, how revolutionary the ballet really was. Think dancing ladies and gentlemen adorned with glittering jewels and plumed hats, the most intricate gowns… such elegance, and with just a hint of playfulness – it's perfect. The streets of Paris are alive with vibrant colours, beautiful architecture and the sound of street performers. It's utterly magical, almost fairytale-like! And it's the perfect place for our time travel escapade!

A Dance Through History

But what's happening today, you might ask? This date marks a monumental event for ballet lovers like us! Louis XIV, the "Sun King," officially declares ballet as an important part of the royal court. He wasn't just any monarch - he was a passionate patron of the arts. I just adore how supportive he was of dance! This move officially elevated the status of ballet, taking it from being a social event to an esteemed, recognized art form. That, darling readers, is no small feat. And it just shows you, that for something as enchanting as ballet, dreams do truly come true.

I imagine it was an absolutely splendid affair. Louis XIV in his luxurious velvet and lace, his lovely Queen at his side, and the most celebrated dancers performing with elegance and grace. It was like watching a glittering dream come alive! I wonder what tunes they danced to? The waltz, perhaps, or maybe a gavotte? Oh, how I wish I could time travel to their rehearsals! I could just imagine the vibrant silks and shimmering jewels, the clinking of glasses filled with champagne... it's truly enchanting to think about!

Adding To My Collection

You'd be surprised at what I found during my explorations. In the Louvre's archives, tucked away behind dusty leather-bound books, I stumbled upon a most intriguing piece! It was an old theatre poster for a ballet that debuted on this very day in Paris, and I just had to add it to my rucksack! Now, I've always said that a girl needs to accessorize and what better way to decorate my Parisian apartment back home in Derbyshire than with this fabulous little vintage treasure?

Fashion Inspiration

Speaking of inspiration, this time travel excursion gave me some fantastic ideas for my upcoming show. Ballet fashions in 1667 were all about drama, grace and a touch of flamboyant opulence! So you can just imagine my excitement for our upcoming dance. My costume? I'm considering a flowing pink skirt with a layer of luxurious silver lace that ripples with every twirl, inspired by those gorgeous Parisian ballerinas! Imagine the glittering lights reflecting off the shimmery lace. I’ll need to get those fabulous crystal embellished slippers for an extra touch of glamour too. I just know it will be absolutely fabulous, a perfect expression of the time!

Finding Your Pink Tutu

And speaking of glamour, you know what else inspires me? Seeing all of you out there, embracing the beauty and the power of ballet in your very own way. Don't ever feel intimidated, dear readers, to express yourselves, and dare I say, let your inner ballet dancer shine through!

I hope my monthly time travel posts inspire you to look at the history of ballet, just as I’ve seen, to embrace this rich and wonderful world of dance! It's a magical place filled with imagination, beauty and wonder. So, until next month, be sure to visit www.pink-tutu.com to discover more time travel secrets.
