Ballet Time Travels: Post #184 โ€“ April 4th, 1676: A Royal Ball in Versailles!

Hello my darling darlings! Emma here, back with another exciting post from my latest time travelling adventure! I can't believe it's been another month already - time really does fly when you're having fun, and when you're flitting through the centuries like a pink feather on the wind!

This month, my fabulous, shimmering pink tutu and I found ourselves transported back to the glorious courts of Louis XIV, in the heart of France. I'm talking Versailles, darling, with its glittering fountains and sprawling gardens - pure fairytale stuff!

The reason for this journey? Well, you all know I adore a good ballet, and I couldn't resist a peek into a Royal Ball held at Versailles on this very date, April 4th, 1676. Now, this wasn't just any ball. It was one where King Louis himself (a bit of a drama queen, darling!) wanted to impress the Court with a special performance - ballet, of course!

Magic Meg (yes, my magnificent pink-sparkling Shire horse with those golden hooves) galloped through time, dropping me in the midst of opulent gardens and a whole heap of regal grandeur. It wasn't hard to imagine the excitement as the guests prepared for the evening - lords and ladies, all in their finery, chattering amongst the fountains and flower beds, all eagerly awaiting the King's grand ballet.

Now, let's talk fashion, darling! Imagine ruffles, plumes, and exquisite fabrics, silks, and velvets โ€“ all with a hint of that playful French flair. Honestly, I could have spent days in those gardens just taking in the sheer glamour and the endless possibilities for a ballerina! It was quite an experience, let me tell you, seeing these beautiful, historically accurate costumes, the elegance and refinement of their movement โ€“ pure magic!

As for the ballet itself, well, I couldn't possibly reveal all the details, you'll have to come on a journey of your own! But let me tell you, it was an absolute feast for the eyes. The King was no slouch, let me assure you! I heard he even performed a part in the ballet! Now, wouldn't that be an amazing social media post? Imagine: "#RoyalLife" "#DancingWithTheKing"!

Now, I know you're wondering, "But Emma, you only post about the ballet!" Well, dear reader, it is true that my passion for ballet runs as deep as my love for my sparkly pink tutu, but my explorations aren't all about just dance.

My dear rucksack (she's called "Sparkle" - very apt, isn't it? Filled to the brim with ballet goodies I find during my time-hopping) has brought home treasures this month, all to inspire you! It's the stories I want to tell, the history, the magic - and sometimes, that's simply impossible to capture in a dance.

So, while we're talking history, I have to mention the incredible influence this royal court had on ballet development! You see, Louis XIV adored the ballet and made it a key part of French court life. The dance, and this lavish event at Versailles, helped to put ballet on the map, darling! We've got the French for so many fabulous ballets and ballerinas, and that, my darlings, is a historical fact worth remembering!

I also want to touch on some news from the ballet world. It's so exciting to see the ballet taking centre stage everywhere in the world, from Broadway to the Royal Opera House. Just yesterday, I saw a captivating review for the new ballet being performed at the Royal Albert Hall, darling! All about an exotic adventure in the Amazon jungle! Sounds simply divine, doesn't it? I simply must add that one to my 'Must-See Ballet' list.

Speaking of ballet and excitement, how's this for a lovely thought โ€“ I am going to give one of you darling readers a truly fabulous pink tutu! Just pop over to www.pink-tutu.com and enter my competition! I want every single one of you to join the pink tutu movement - let's celebrate this fabulous symbol of ballet, fashion and confidence! Don't be shy, darlings, come along, dance, twirl, and spread the pink tutu love!

That's all for this month, darling! Remember to check back next month for a whole new ballet time travelling adventure. Don't forget to follow me on my journey โ€“ every ballet show, every new costume, every dance class! Oh, and please, don't be afraid to twirl! It's what life is all about!

With love and sparkle,

Emma xx
