Post #244: 1681, April 4th - A Royal Ballet and A Dash of Fashion!

Hello, darlings! Emma here, your favourite pink-tutu-wearing time-travelling ballerina, reporting live from...well, let's just say it's not Derbyshire!

This month, my trusty steed, Magic Meg, the most fabulous pink-sparkling Shire horse you ever did see (with those golden hooves!), has brought me to 1681, 4th April. And what a day it is! The world is positively swirling with ballet excitement, and my trusty leather rucksack is bursting with stories.

You see, darlings, this very day is the birthday of Louis XIV's famous dance master, Pierre Beauchamps, and rumour has it that there are grand celebrations planned at the Palace of Versailles! Beauchamps was a legend, truly. A ballet dancer, choreographer, and the mastermind behind those majestic royal ballets that swept Europe off its feet. This man practically invented what we know today as "ballet". No wonder it's a big day!

Time-Travelling Fashionistas:

But let's be honest, darlings, my favourite thing about this journey is the fashion! Can you imagine? Corsets, frills, panniers, and gowns so grand they could double as miniature ballrooms! And that's not even mentioning the gorgeous hats! Everything about the time is so decadent, so feminine! And although I couldn't find any surviving details of the birthday celebrations for M. Beauchamps, I'm picturing an extravagant spectacle of silks, feathers, and intricate designs โ€“ the kind of show that would make any ballerina's heart soar!

Speaking of fashion, let me tell you about a ballet gown I found in a forgotten corner of a Parisian vintage shop! It's the most stunning shade of lilac, with intricate embroidery and a long, flowing skirt. Just picture it: swirling on the stage, a vision of elegance in that glorious colour! It would be perfect for a spring performance, wouldn't you say?

The Future of Ballet:

Oh, my darlings, I just had to get back in touch with my favourite tailor โ€“ he's helping me re-imagine a ballet-inspired clothing line! We're calling it "Emma's Time-Travelling Tutus"! Just wait until you see what we're concocting - vintage inspired gowns with a modern flair and yes, even a touch of pink tutu here and there!

I've already begun sketches, and let me tell you, the early design ideas are simply magical! The key? Taking classic styles and giving them a little sprinkle of whimsical elegance, just like a ballerina!

Time to Embrace Pink!

Let's talk about my mission, darlings! Did you know that on this very day in 1681, Louis XIV issued an official royal decree promoting the arts? It was a watershed moment for theatre and dance, just like my little venture into getting the world embracing pink tutus is for ballet fashion. Imagine the world โ€“ pink tutus for every occasion, darling! What could be more beautiful than that? Pink is for everyone! It's bright and cheerful, it embodies joy, and frankly, it makes us feel good, which, for me, is what ballet is all about.

I'll leave you to dream of tutus, darlings. Don't forget to check out my next post, where I'll be diving into the ballet world of another enchanting time period.

Until then, remember to embrace the elegance and grace of ballet, and never be afraid to step into the spotlight!

Yours truly,

Emma
