Pink Tutu Travels: Back to the Court of Louis XIV! (Post #275)

Hello my lovelies! It’s Emma here, back from another exhilarating time travel adventure, and ready to spill all the deets on the most fabulous ballet trip yet! This month, I set my pink tutu sights on November 11th, 1683, landing smack-dab in the glorious, decadent era of the Sun King himself, Louis XIV. I’m talking swirling courtly gowns, extravagant powdered wigs, and enough gold embroidery to make your eyes sparkle!

Now, you all know I adore a good tutu, but let’s be real, even a girl like me needs to keep up with the times. This time around, I decided to swap my standard tulle for something a bit more regal. Imagine, if you will, a delicate rose pink silk, draped in layers, cascading into a frothy skirt that danced with every step. My shimmering pink shoes, hand-painted with tiny pearlescent stars, made for the most divine clicks as I waltzed through the magnificent halls of the Palace of Versailles.

I reached Versailles in a flurry of windswept pink – you’ll never guess who I arrived with! Yes, Magic Meg, my sparkling pink Shire horse with her gleaming golden hooves, made quite the statement. Imagine, a horse gleaming like a pink diamond, with a mane like spun white gold, pulling a little pink tutu carriage! Naturally, she charmed everyone we passed. I bet those folks back in 1683 were just as amazed by my trusty steed as they were by my dazzling tutu!

Speaking of charming, the main attraction this time around wasn’t just Louis XIV’s regal charm, though, he did put on a pretty spectacular performance! Imagine the grandeur, the opulence, the pure spectacle! We're talking massive, intricate sets, elaborate costumes, and dazzling musical compositions – it was an absolute dream!

What was going on in the world of ballet on this date? Well, as you all know, the world was only just discovering the joy of ballet. The year 1683 was all about the grand court ballets, a symphony of dancing, acting, singing, and music. Think elaborate stage designs and plenty of lavish costumes. And don’t forget those graceful, stylized movements. Back then, ballet was all about conveying stories and emotions through grand gestures. It was like watching a painting come to life!

So what did I learn on this trip? Let's just say my rucksack is bursting at the seams! Not just with precious vintage ballet fabric and sketches (I snagged some beautiful early choreography plans!) but with tales that will make your heart sing! Let’s talk about Lully, the master of court music and ballet, the musical mastermind who crafted the breathtaking compositions for these courtly spectacles. His legacy still resonates in ballet today.

My biggest treasure from this time period though? I’m saving that for next month’s post! I think I have a very special treat for all of you pink tutu lovers – you are going to love this!

Speaking of treats, let’s dive into my shopping adventures! The French court was a haven for dazzling lace, decadent velvet, and vibrant ribbons. Can you imagine all the intricate embellishments, the exquisite embroidery, and the elegant lace ruffles? Talk about a true inspiration for the fashionista in all of us!

Until next month, remember, my darlings, to twirl with grace, sparkle with joy, and never forget that the best accessory you can have is your dazzling smile!

Stay fabulous and always wear pink!

With love, Emma
