Post #293: A Royal Ballet Birthday and a Pink Tutu Dream - 5th May 1685!

Hello lovelies, and welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com! It's me, Emma, your friendly neighbourhood pink tutu-wearing time traveller, back from another amazing adventure in the past. Today, we're travelling back to the 5th of May, 1685, to a very special date in the history of ballet!

I arrived at the Palace of Versailles, resplendent in a sunshine-yellow tutu (can't you just imagine the compliments I received from the ladies-in-waiting!), with Magic Meg patiently munching on a meadow full of French daisies. And let me tell you, my dear readers, it was pure magic. The Palace itself, surrounded by those manicured French gardens, looked like a dream out of a ballet performance, with all the grace and beauty that could ever be imagined.

Today's special date? Well, it's none other than the birthday of Louis XIV, "The Sun King", King of France, patron of the arts, and the undisputed king of ballet! I know, how fabulous is that?! Imagine having your birthday party at the centre of all the artistic energy and brilliance of the court of Versailles - and Louis wasn't just any patron of ballet, he was actively involved. He took classes, danced himself, and even commissioned ballets, contributing heavily to the advancement of the art form.

You know me and my passion for all things ballet! Naturally, my little leather rucksack (oh, the ballet memorabilia I collect!) was filled with a pink silk shawl, ready for some elegant courtyard viewing of the court's grand performance of "Le Triomphe de l'Amour et de la Vertu" (The Triumph of Love and Virtue). It was an absolute treat to watch this majestic dance piece. It reminded me so much of our classical ballets today. The grand costumes, the precise choreography, and the sheer passion for telling a story through dance - it was all there, waiting to be admired and celebrated.

Speaking of ballet performances, wouldn't it be divine to imagine what the Parisian ballet scene looked like then? Imagine the magnificent gowns, the elegant poses, the music swirling through the grand salons… I imagine everyone being just a little bit obsessed with ballet like we are now! I've even dreamed up some fabulous "pink tutu" options for the French ladies:

  • A Parisian rose pink tutu, perfectly complemented by a white powdered wig and shimmering golden trimmings. So très chic!
  • A pale blush pink tutu for those who love their femininity subtle and elegant. Perhaps a silver belt to add some sophistication.
  • And for those feeling adventurous, why not try a hot pink tutu! Imagine how striking a fuchsia-hued twirl would look against the grandeur of Versailles!

This whole time travel journey really made me realize, my lovelies, that ballet has always been more than just a performance. It's a reflection of the times, a celebration of artistry, and a journey through emotions, all expressed with the poetry of movement. I bet those 17th-century ballerinas had a similar thrill to us when they twirled under the chandelier or moved through those grand courts.

We mustn't forget that ballet fashion in the 1685 era was simply exquisite. Imagine intricate ribbons woven through beautiful fabrics, all complemented by dramatic and glamorous hairstyles and powdered wigs. It's enough to make me want to start my own ballet-inspired fashion line! I think the "Pink-Tutu" brand is finally ready to hit the fashion world!

Just thinking about how ballet has evolved from those elegant courts to today's thrilling contemporary works just fills me with excitement! It’s been such a delightful journey into the history of ballet, exploring its roots, its beauty, and its evolution.

And remember, my dear readers, that each time I journey through time, I leave behind a sprinkle of "Pink-Tutu" magic. I dream that one day, we can all express our passion for ballet and wear a beautiful pink tutu! Just imagine how amazing it would look at a ballet performance, or even in our daily lives! We could bring joy, laughter, and beauty wherever we go, one twirl at a time.

So keep checking in here at Pink-Tutu.com, my lovelies. My adventures in time are neverending. We'll be hopping from decade to decade, uncovering hidden gems, meeting iconic dancers, and exploring the fascinating world of ballet. And who knows? Maybe one day, we'll even create our own ballet company together!

Until next month, Emma,

Your Derbyshire Ballerina
