Welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com, darlings! This month, I'm taking you on a delightful jaunt back to the 17th century! Now, don't get me wrong, the fashion wasn't quite as "pink tutu fabulous" as we like it nowadays. But hey, a girl can dream, right? And dream I did when I hopped onto my trusty steed, Magic Meg, and zipped back to the glorious 7th of July, 1688.
This time travel is all part of my mission, of course: to spread the pink tutu gospel far and wide! You see, dear readers, it’s not just a dance garment – it’s a symbol of joy, grace, and that beautiful, fluttering spirit of expression that lies within us all. Even way back in the 17th century, the seeds of ballet were being sown, waiting to bloom into the incredible dance art we know and love today!

Back in the Swinging Sixties – I mean, 1680s – of Dance:
On this 7th of July in 1688, ballet wasn't exactly front page news like it is now, but whispers of dance were beginning to spread across Europe! Let's imagine, shall we, a lively London street where carriages clatter by, and the air is alive with the bustle of vendors, merchants, and street performers. This was the scene where the early seeds of ballet started taking root, slowly but surely, just like the first blooming of spring flowers.
In those days, ballet was more about elegant gestures, pantomimed tales, and aristocratic charm. Imagine a graceful nobleman, swishing his velvet coat, a lady with her fan, a gentle dance to celebrate a courtly victory. Think “ballet de cour” – more like courtly dance, really. They used those graceful flourishes in their elegant courts.
My Tutu-Tastic Time Capsule:
So, as always, I couldn’t resist bringing a touch of pink tutu flair to 1688! Let's just say that my arrival in this grand century was quite the sight – especially for those used to frilly, powdered wigs and petticoats! Thankfully, my Magic Meg is quite the showstopper - imagine a shire horse, sleek as a panther, glistening with shimmering pink scales, a snow-white mane flowing like silk, and golden hooves that barely make a sound. Well, just try and stop a sight like that from causing a little stir!
The locals were understandably taken aback by my vibrant pink tulle and my leather rucksack - my very own time travel accessory, you see. It’s brimming with carefully chosen finds from my ballet-loving journeys, such as beautiful, antique prints of early dancers in their billowing, floor-length gowns, manuscripts of ballet librettos penned by a court poet, and a carefully tucked-away recipe for 17th-century ballet-worthy beauty creams - no fairy dust or magic potion here!
I think my arrival, though unexpected, inspired them to give me their take on their favourite dance – imagine, graceful curtsies, elegant poses and a little theatrical flourishment of the fan, all against the backdrop of a stunning London afternoon! After a whirl and twirl, I wished the local dance performers well and hopped onto Magic Meg, back through time I went!
This time travelling ballerina's time machine isn't a DeLorean or a hot air balloon, it's a shire horse!
I simply jump onto Magic Meg’s back, shout the time I want to visit and - “Whirl, Meg!” off we go, travelling through time, a vision of pink fluff and shimmer against the canvas of history. But my favourite part? Getting everyone wearing a pink tutu! Who says pink is for little girls? Think of all the history the fabric has touched! The colours have danced across the pages of our world’s history - you could almost say that the history of the colour pink is the history of ballet itself!
