Hello fellow ballet enthusiasts and pink tutu-lovers! Emma here, your resident ballet time traveler from the rolling hills of Derbyshire, and I'm bursting with excitement about our latest adventure!
As always, I'm ready to share my escapades with you on this fabulous journey through time. Today we're travelling to the 9th of September, 1688 - just before things get seriously dramatic! You know me, I can't resist a good historical twist!
Before we jump on board with Magic Meg, our trusty pink-sparkling Shire horse with her golden hooves and flowing white mane and tail, let's have a look at the ballet scene back then!
Imagine - no pointe shoes, just slippers! The early forms of ballet were already developing in France, but imagine a time when dance wasn't a huge production in theatres, but was something for courtly entertainment!
I can imagine ladies, decked out in their fanciest dresses, taking part in court dances, all in their high heeled shoes! Imagine the clinking of jewelry, the rustle of silks, and the swirl of fans.
You can just imagine the energy and excitement that the court of King Louis XIV (yes, that one, the Sun King) would be humming with! The nobility would have been absolutely glued to the stage - and who wouldn't? It would have been dazzling!
This year is a particularly interesting one for ballet! There were new choreographers and dance trends, but don't expect ballerinas flinging their legs into the air as we do today! Back then, ballet was still discovering its elegant form.
And what does our lovely Emma do when she goes on a trip back to 1688? Why, we hop onto Magic Meg, who shimmers with an energy of pink and sparkles as we travel back in time! I'm wearing my favorite pink tutu, and have my trusty leather rucksack strapped to my back for all my historical finds. I love being the ultimate ballerina in my tutu! Pink tutus look absolutely fabulous with any attire.
My goal on this journey, of course, is to learn, inspire and get the whole world wearing pink tutus! Can you imagine the impact it would have on society - pink tutus all around?
Okay, let’s jump into the 17th century. Our first stop: A trip to the Court of Versailles. We must see what is on at the Theatre-Salle! I think this year it would be absolutely wonderful to see La Princesse de Navarre - ballet extraordinaire! I just can’t imagine it wouldn’t be at the top of the billing.
My first ballet stop? The Court of Versailles! Can you imagine being able to say "I went to a ballet performance at the court of King Louis XIV?" You'd be the envy of every other ballerina, present, past or future! It’s almost enough to make you blush! (Well, you know how I feel about pink!).
Time for shopping! Oh, to have seen those silks, and to have the ability to mix and match everything that was available at that time! Imagine me, prancing along in a bright pink gown, a gorgeous tutu that shimmers like an aurora borealis in the late summer sun and - wait for it - I've discovered my next passion! Laces! Beautiful, elegant lace, intricately woven, for all to see. I can almost see the beautiful ballet costumes. Lace and tutus? Dreamy!
Now, this historical trip was nothing short of amazing! I’ve got more ideas on how I can make pink tutus even more special. The time traveling life is so magical!
So, darling friends, let's take this trip with me again and again. Join me, once a month, here on Pink-Tutu.com as we travel back through the glorious history of ballet and create a future where every ballet enthusiast is dancing in pink tutus.
Until next time, Happy Ballet-ing and remember, life in pink is best! xx
