Hello my darlings! Welcome back to the Pink Tutu Time Travel blog! I'm your trusty guide, Emma, and this month, we're whisking you back to 5th May, 1690. Buckle up, because this time, we're venturing back to a time before tutus took their place as the icon of the ballet world β and trust me, there are some surprises in store!
As usual, I'm accompanied by the magnificent Magic Meg, my pink-sparkling Shire horse. She's decked out in her finest, with golden hooves that glimmer like coins in the sun and a white mane and tail flowing like spun sugar. She even has a pink feather in her braid, you know, for that extra touch of fabulous!
So, we're off! Imagine, my dear readers, 1690. London is a bustling city β muddy, vibrant, full of the exciting clatter of hooves and horse-drawn carriages. Imagine ladies in rustling silks and gentlemen in elegant wigs. The air is thick with the scent of pastries and spices.
We're headed to the theatre β not for a grand ballet production, mind you, but for something altogether more... theatrical! That's right, ballet as we know it wasn't even around yet, my loves! You see, those intricate leaps, those breathtaking turns, they were all still being dreamed up. Instead, people were thrilled by the performance of "opera-ballets". Now, imagine my darling, an opera with dancing!
Picture scenes set to music with singers and actors performing alongside intricate choreography! Imagine intricate costumes, the beautiful swirling music β and no tutu in sight! They had elaborate skirts and ornate shoes but no billowing layers of pink tulle, darling.
Can you believe it?
That's why this trip has been an absolute revelation. You see, this was the beginning of ballet's journey, the first step on the road that led us to the magnificent tutus we all love so much today. Back then, it was all about pantomime, with graceful movements and poses that communicated emotions without words. I could feel a certain poetic beauty, a sense of theatrical wonder β something that definitely caught my eye, though a bit tame for a Pink Tutu connoisseur like me!
It was exciting to see a dance-based theatrical performance so different from what we are used to now, but of course, there was no denying the pull of that wonderful era. The theatre was brimming with energy, the music had an enchanting quality.
Now, I must confess to my dear readers, it took some serious planning to achieve this particular time travel β as it wasn't all plain sailing with the historical time shift. The energy wasn't strong enough for Magic Meg's hooves to transport us there at first. So I had to channel the spirit of ballet with a very special routine - my new dance inspired by 17th Century baroque. This got us through! Imagine me performing with my tutu shimmering in the London sunshine and Magic Meg patiently awaiting, her tail swishing excitedly as my steps finally pushed us through the historical veil.
A rather grand performance in the courtyard of a historic inn, darling. I had to dress to impress! Think beautiful, rich silk fabric with a swirling design, a matching silk hat trimmed with delicate pink lace, and β yes, you guessed it β a hint of pink tulle adorning my elaborate, flowing skirt! This was definitely a vintage pink tutu-look.
And then β bam β the sensation of swirling through time. It's the most incredible feeling. It's a feeling of magic, excitement, and discovery that makes my heart dance. And every time, thereβs a bit of magic in the air, darling. Magic Megβs white mane flows behind her, the air fills with the scent of meadows and wildflowers β all whilst the sun is glinting from those lovely golden hooves!
I felt that familiar thrill β and you know I just have to record this journey in my lovely leather rucksack. You see, I am constantly collecting items that spark inspiration. Today, that's a delicate, beautifully decorated scroll with detailed drawings of some of the dancers I witnessed today in my vintage Pink Tutu! Oh my β it's full of stunning, historical artwork depicting this magical era.
So now my darling readers, back home in my own little bit of Derbyshire, I'm sat in my Pink Tutu headquarters β just a comfy nook in my tiny flat that I've transformed into a magical little haven! Itβs adorned with posters of my favorite ballet performers, glittery photographs of past Pink Tutu adventures, and those beautiful, twinkling little Pink Tutu ornaments!
I've even included a pink tutu-shaped mirror above the little, white wooden desk I use for my blog. After a delightful afternoon tea in a pretty tea shop near my favourite ballet school β a bit of pink tea for Pink Tutu after all! β I decided to share these discoveries with you. This is why the Pink Tutu Time Travel Blog exists: to show everyone, that every journey in life β and in time β can be magical.
So, remember my dear friends β keep dancing, stay vibrant, and letβs always remember that the world of ballet is waiting to be explored! Remember to explore and travel the world of ballet! And yes, dear readers, you absolutely should be wearing a pink tutu for it, no matter what!
Love and twirls, Emma, The Pink Tutu Time Traveller
