Post #359: A Pink Tutu in the French Court - 11th November 1690

Hello, darlings! Welcome back to my little corner of the internet, where history meets sparkles and we all twirl together. Today, we're diving deep into the archives, back to 11th November 1690. Now, before we get lost in the whispers of the past, let me tell you, it's a bit chilly here in the Derbyshire countryside, but that's just a bit of autumn breeze compared to the adventure waiting for us!

As you know, I, Emma, your ever-so-pink ballet blogger, love nothing more than slipping into a perfectly poofy tutu and hopping on Magic Meg's back for a journey through time. Today, we're landing in the grand, glittering heart of French court life – oh la la! Can you imagine the lace, the ribbons, the powder, the powdered wigs?

And guess what? We're arriving on a date filled with delightful drama! On this day in 1690, Louis XIV, the "Sun King" himself, announced his decision to start a new opera house! Now, isn't that absolutely divine? Imagine the music, the performances, the costumes… oh, I simply can't wait to tell you all about it!

Now, we're all familiar with the magnificence of ballet in France during this era, those incredible court ballets filled with elaborate scenery and even more elaborate costumes. This time, the opera house was set to house grand operas as well. It's fascinating, isn't it? The world of ballet and opera coming together under one spectacular roof!

I'm almost picturing myself performing on stage in that opulent setting, surrounded by dignitaries and ladies with incredible powdered hair – all sporting pink tutus, of course! Perhaps with my ballet performances, I could even encourage a new fashion trend!

Speaking of trends, just picture the fashion here in 1690. All the grandeur of Versailles, all the extravagance of court life, reflected in the exquisite gowns and towering powdered wigs! The ladies in the court were fashion icons in their own right, always setting trends and showcasing their incredible style.

You know I simply can't resist a good fashion scene. The leather rucksack I always carry on my back is getting quite full of samples of fabric from different time periods. Just the other day, I found the most amazing example of needle lace – exquisite craftsmanship and a touch of history, don't you think?

However, today's adventure isn't just about fashion – it's about dance! Back in this era, the ballet style was all about stately grace and elegant gestures. It was all about conveying emotions through every movement and every posture, truly captivating the audience with its artistry.

And what is my aim for my pink tutu mission? I believe every soul, in every time period, deserves to experience the pure joy of ballet! Imagine a world where tutus aren't just for stage performances, but an everyday style statement, a declaration of your love for the dance. A world of colour, elegance, and above all, joy – a world filled with pink tutus, like my little pink dream world!

I know it's a big dream, darlings, but hey, we all need to dream, right? Until next month, keep dancing and remember: every day is a chance to add a touch of pink tutu magic to the world.

See you all next month!

Lots of love and twirls,

Emma
