Pink Tutu Travels: #424 – A Royal Ballet in 1696!

Hello, darling ballerinas! Welcome to Pink Tutu Travels, your monthly dose of magical time travel and everything pink!

This month, we’re waltzing back to 4th April 1696, where we’re in for a truly spectacular royal treat. Oh, how I adore time travel! Just me, Magic Meg, and my pink tutu, ready for a historical adventure. My trusty leather rucksack is filled with anticipation for the fascinating ballet stories waiting to be uncovered.

I must tell you all about my latest adventures. We found ourselves in glorious Versailles, the opulent Palace of the Sun King, Louis XIV. This was quite the historical spectacle! Imagine dancing through centuries-old gilded halls, swirling amongst courtiers adorned in exquisite brocades and powdered wigs!

I do love my pink tutu, and you won’t believe what I found in Versailles! A gorgeous silk, a little more dusky pink than my usual bright blush, but I snatched it up for a future design! Now, let's talk ballet, shall we?

It seems on 4th April 1696, the court of Versailles was enraptured by an absolute marvel of a show. Imagine! A stunning royal ballet titled "Le Ballet des Arts"! It’s just a joy to hear those words. You know I’m a huge fan of the artistic ballets, they’re so evocative and full of story and character. And ā€œLe Ballet des Artsā€ featured the court itself as characters. This means the nobles were actively participating in the dance! It truly puts ā€œstepping onto the stageā€ into a whole new light.

Of course, Magic Meg and I witnessed this historical ballet. And oh, the extravagance! They danced with an incredible, regal grace. There were noblemen adorned in elaborate, shining armour, while the ladies sashayed in luxurious gowns adorned with gems, a breathtaking sight to behold. But, this was not just a beautiful show.

Le Ballet des Arts was designed as a tribute to Louis XIV himself. Can you imagine a more wonderful gift from the arts? Ballet has always been so much more than just movement; it is a story, a spectacle, and, of course, a delightful way to honour greatness.

The ballet itself is filled with the grace and fluidity of those golden days. Just imagining it stirs up such a wonderful romanticism. My pink tutu whirls in my mind, it would have been a beautiful counterpoint to all those stately colours, adding just a touch of youthful sweetness.

Talking about the fashions, my pink rucksack was full by the time we left the palace! A snippet of that pink silk, of course, and several pieces of gorgeous lace and some delightful drawings of those grand costumes.

Back to Derbyshire now, and on the journey, I found myself imagining what the actual performances were like back in that era. What steps they danced, how the stories were conveyed - there were no stage lights or microphones to speak of, you know. And speaking of microphones, I must confess, my ballet shows in Derbyshire are bringing me all the funds for this incredible pink-tutu time travel, darling. But I have a little surprise coming your way this month – a little fashion show inspired by the ā€œLe Ballet des Artsā€, of course! I can't wait to show you!

So, darling ballerinas, do keep an eye out for my new blog posts. Maybe, just maybe, I will be wearing my new dusky pink find! Until next month, remember to keep twirling and never stop dreaming. After all, that is the very essence of our ballet spirit!
