Hello my darling ballet bunnies! 🩰 Emma here, your time-travelling tutu enthusiast, back with another exciting entry in the Pink Tutu Time Travels! It's been a whirlwind month, and I'm positively giddy to tell you all about it.
This month, Magic Meg and I landed smack-dab in the heart of Paris, on the 6th of June, 1697! As you know, I’m all about a little Parisian flair, so this was a dream come true. We’re talking cobbled streets, enchanting boulangeries, and oh my, the fashion!
Imagine this: the sun was setting, painting the sky in fiery hues of orange and crimson. We’d arrived just in time for a truly grand event at the Palais Royal. That's right, dear friends, a ballet performance! And it wasn't just any ordinary ballet; it was the first public performance of "L'Amour Médicinal." Now, hold onto your tutus, because this was truly something special.
This was a ballet-comique, my lovelies! Imagine, if you will, the elegance of a ballet interwoven with enchanting music, lively dialogue, and captivating scenic effects. They didn’t just tell a story with their dance, but they painted a vivid picture for the whole audience to enjoy.
But wait, there's more! The star of the show? The inimitable Monsieur Beauchamp, the "King of Ballet" as he was fondly known! A true legend, my darlings, who was renowned for his exquisite artistry and the grace of his every movement. It's hard not to be in awe of a ballet dancer who can weave such a spellbinding narrative through their dancing. And just imagine: if I could have seen this legendary ballet live… well, it would have blown my tutu right off!
Of course, as soon as I entered that grand palace, I was in my element. Imagine the vibrant silks, the elegant costumes, the intricate embroideries! The scent of rosewater and lavender was in the air, the ladies were decked out in exquisite lace and powder, and the gentlemen, oh, the gentlemen, with their stylish wigs and ruffled collars - it was enough to make a time-travelling ballerina swoon! I could not help myself and immediately snagged a little black velvet purse adorned with a pearl buckle from a local market for my rucksack. A little reminder for me of this gorgeous time period and it will be a fine addition to my growing collection!
Speaking of the Palais Royal, did you know, my lovelies, that this incredible space wasn’t just a grand residence, but also housed a truly magnificent ballet school? I’m telling you, these ballerinas weren’t just born with it - they trained tirelessly to perfect their art, honing their technique and stretching their grace. Talk about inspiration! The entire ballet world of the time seemed to swirl around this single point, like dancers caught in the midst of a perfectly spun pirouette!
Of course, I wouldn't be a proper time-travelling ballerina if I didn't leave a little bit of pink-tutu magic wherever I went! I saw a young dancer looking a bit downcast, so I slipped a lovely, bright pink feather, one of the many my Tutu Fairy has gifted me, into his pocket with a wink. It's amazing what a little spark of colour can do!
Leaving the Palais Royal that evening, I couldn’t help but marvel at the power of ballet, its ability to unite audiences and transcend time. There’s a reason, my dear ballet bunnies, why ballet remains one of the most beloved art forms in the world! And trust me, when you’ve experienced it first hand in a time long gone, the magic of it becomes even more potent!
After that incredible performance, it was back to our time-travelling chariot, the magnificent Magic Meg! She always patiently waits for me, her coat as pink as my most treasured tutus. As we sped away, my thoughts drifted back to those stunning Parisian streets, those grand salons, and that exquisite performance.
Next time on Pink Tutu Time Travels: I have my eye on the stunning Russian ballerinas of the 19th century! Can’t wait to discover more fascinating ballet history and let’s just say it…it involves a whole lot of exquisite fashion, breathtaking artistry and a touch of glamour that’ll leave you utterly enraptured!
Until then, remember my lovelies: let's keep dancing! 🩰 Don’t forget to check out www.pink-tutu.com for more exciting entries from my adventures. Until next month, you stay twirling!
Love,
Emma
