Hello darlings! Welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com, your one-stop shop for all things pink and twirly! It’s your favourite pink-clad ballerina Emma here, back with another thrilling tale from my adventures through time. Today, we’re jetting back to 12th December, 1699, a date steeped in the history of ballet. But before we dive into the history books, let’s talk tutus, shall we?
My latest find is a simply stunning pink tutu from a small vintage shop tucked away in Bath. It's all billowing layers of pale pink silk, just begging to be twirled under a glittering chandelier. And let’s face it, you can never have too many tutus, can you?
Speaking of glittering chandeliers, have you heard of the grand, dramatic, and absolutely exquisite Italian ballet productions of the 1600s? They were known for their grandeur, their elegant courtly steps, and their dazzling, larger-than-life sets and costumes. Just imagine, all that glamour, all those graceful movements, all those twirls... my heart flutters just thinking about it!
This brings us back to December 12th, 1699, a date when ballet was blooming into something truly magnificent in the grand courts of Europe. Our beloved King Louis XIV was a passionate supporter of the art form, and his court was abuzz with elaborate productions, exquisite choreography, and, of course, beautiful costumes. Imagine swirling silks and lavishly embroidered bodices!
Now, I may be biased, but I can't help but feel that the French had a real knack for elegant ballet. Louis XIV’s reign saw the development of a new, elegant style of dance, emphasizing fluidity and elegance. They focused on precise technique and gracefulness, resulting in a more theatrical form of ballet. Just like our modern ballet! It’s amazing how much our dancing has evolved over the years, but how much still remains constant, the love for graceful movements and beautiful storytelling through dance.
But hold on, darlings, we’re not just focused on France! This date marks a pivotal moment for ballet beyond France’s borders as well. Around the same time in Italy, dancing had moved beyond the traditional and intricate choreography to explore new expressions and styles. Imagine, dancers were moving away from formal, courtly dances and exploring bolder, freer movements, opening the door to all the exciting dance styles that have flourished since! It's simply fascinating to see how the dance form, like our tutus, evolves over time.
Let’s talk fashion, darlings! This year in England, fashionable ladies are embracing brocades, rich velvets, and elaborate embroidery. While we still wear tutus in our time travel journeys, it's intriguing to consider what might be possible with these bold materials. Just imagine, a sparkling pink tutu adorned with brocade! Talk about a glamorous outfit.
You might be asking, darling, "But how does Emma even manage to fund all of her travels?" Well, let me tell you about a recent benefit gala performance I organised. The local community hall was transformed into a fairytale haven with shimmering lights and pink streamers. We had a delicious feast, a silent auction where one lucky person snagged a custom-made pink tutu from a local designer, and a magical performance from my favourite dance group, "The Sparkling Swans". The night was an absolute dream! It was such a joy to see how many people in my small community in Derbyshire, England share my love for all things ballet and pink.
Speaking of dancing, it’s the 12th of December, which means…it's time for me to catch the very latest performances around the world. My little travel pack is overflowing with books and articles that I collected during my time travelling adventures! I'm particularly fascinated by the history of ballet shoes, which is incredibly intriguing and surprising! If I have time to spare this month, I'll write about my discoveries in my next post!
And now, I’ll end with a special dedication to you all. As a little Christmas gift, here’s my special festive dance routine, "Jingle Bells, Pink Tutu Style!" Just make sure you get permission before starting your performance if you decide to copy me. But I strongly encourage you to share a video on the "Pink Tutu Time Travel" Facebook Group - there is already a wonderful community there of ladies who love dancing!
As always, thank you for reading, and may your day be filled with twirls and joy! Don't forget, dear readers, that wearing a pink tutu isn't just a fashion statement. It's a commitment to the joy of dancing, to embracing individuality, and to sharing your love of all things beautiful. Let's all spread the pink tutu revolution!
See you soon for more pink adventures!
XOXO, Emma
