Hello, darlings! Welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com! I'm Emma, your pink-loving, tutu-wearing time-travelling ballerina! This month, we're hopping back in time to July 7th, 1700 – a date bursting with historical ballet happenings! My dear steed, Magic Meg – the pinkest, most dazzling Shire horse you ever did see, with golden hooves and a flowing mane and tail as white as fresh snow – is ready to take us on a journey through time. Buckle up, buttercups, this is going to be a spectacular trip!
We're galloping towards Paris – the heart of ballet! This bustling city was a hub for the arts back then, and on July 7th, 1700, we have the grand opening of the Opéra de Paris, an extraordinary, opulent theatre with beautiful architecture and a truly magical air!
Before stepping out of the stables – er, the portal! – Magic Meg is, of course, decked out in a fetching pink saddle blanket with a sparkling, sequined tutu-style appliqué. It's a statement, darling! A time-travelling ballerina has to be fashion-forward, even back in 1700. I’ve slipped on my own brand new, silk pink tutu for the occasion! It's a masterpiece, complete with cascading ruffles, a whimsical tulle skirt and, of course, the tiniest touch of glitter. It wouldn't be a Pink Tutu time-travelling adventure without a bit of sparkle, would it?
Back in my time, 1700 was still considered the Golden Age of Ballet. A time of incredible artistry, elegance and – drumroll – ballet as court entertainment for the upper classes! Can you imagine, darling? It was such a thrilling event – a bit like going to a ball, but with a touch of pirouette and an elegant plié or two!
Stepping through the magical, shimmering doorway onto the Parisian streets, I'm amazed by the grandeur of the buildings, the scent of pastries in the air, and the vibrant colours of everyone's clothing! It feels like I've stepped right into a ballet performance! The air buzzes with anticipation. There’s excitement and anticipation. People are whispering about the new Opéra de Paris, about the dancers who have come to be seen as true stars in their own right.
That night, I find myself sitting amongst the Parisian elite in the plush red velvet seats of the Opéra de Paris. The air is alive with whispers and giggles as the performance begins. This, my dears, was a royal treat! The stage comes to life as graceful dancers, clothed in magnificent, extravagant costumes, perform stories, ballets, and spectacles using music, movement, and incredible theatrical designs. It’s simply breath-taking! It is easy to see how this would become one of the most loved art forms, for both high society and the people!
A quick peep into my vintage, leather satchel that's adorned with tiny, antique ballet shoe charms and delicate sequined trims (did I tell you my grandma's great grandma was a ballerina? She used to tell me all her favourite ballet stories! I carry a bit of her magic with me on every adventure) reveals an antique pamphlet from the opening night. It has drawings and handwritten notes about the stunning choreography and dazzling sets – I've got to keep this! It's an absolute treasure.
As I absorb this historical spectacle, I'm whisked back through the shimmering doorway by Magic Meg, with my new precious pamphlet safe in my satchel! The memory of those amazing dancers, the vibrant colors, and the luxurious setting lingers in my mind. You've got to love this incredible time travelling experience!
Oh, but there is more! The real icing on the cake, darling, is a beautiful surprise in the world of ballet today! Did you know that the Royal Ballet is celebrating its 75th Anniversary this year? That’s right! Seven-five years of ballet in all its beauty, drama, and wonder!
The Royal Ballet’s celebrations are jam-packed with extraordinary performances, including *a spectacular revival of Kenneth MacMillan's “Manon" * starring the fabulous Akane Takada. This captivating and thrilling production features breathtaking choreography, opulent costumes and an incredible story - it's a ballet you definitely don't want to miss! And the perfect tribute to the heritage of ballet!
And the best bit? There’s an online festival featuring films, masterclasses, and talks - all absolutely free! This means, you can see incredible ballet stars, learn from experienced dancers, and hear fascinating discussions about ballet - all from the comfort of your home!
It’s amazing to think that what began as court entertainment, inspired by elegant dance forms, has evolved into one of the world’s most loved and beloved art forms, enjoyed by millions! It's a thrilling reminder of how far ballet has come – from court performances in palaces to theatres like the Royal Opera House and the magnificent Opéra de Paris.
That’s it for me today, my dears. If you're inspired by our adventures this month, do take some time to appreciate the beauty of ballet, whether it’s catching a performance, visiting a local dance studio, or simply letting a ballet-themed playlist play while you're getting ready in your best pink tutu, just like I am!
Don't forget to stay tuned for my next time travel adventure - next month, I'm going to be off on an epic adventure, which just might take me to see some spectacular flamenco performances. Remember, you can follow along on Pink-Tutu.com. Until then, stay sparkly, stay curious, and keep dancing, darlings!
Love, Emma
PS: Oh! Did I tell you about the time travelling dress-up competition we’re hosting at our next live ballet performance? It’s going to be fabulously fancy - lots of tutus and sparkles. I hope you can make it! We can't wait to dance the night away with you!
