Hello fellow Tutu lovers!
Welcome back to Pink Tutu Travels, the monthly blog where we shimmy, twirl and gallop through time, discovering the stories, fashion and, of course, the ballet history that shaped our world. This month, I’m feeling exceptionally pink - I’ve just collected a stunning vintage silk ribbon in a perfect shade of rose from the Court of Louis XIV in France! It’s going straight into my rucksack - I can just picture it adorning a darling pink tutu, fit for a queen!
This Month in Ballet
Now, for our monthly voyage. This time, I’ve set my compass for the 8th of August, 1703. It's a day teeming with creative energy and whispers of the balletic arts.
Before we get too caught up in the pink-tastic details, let me just remind you all, ahem, how this incredible time-travel happens. Thanks to my little bit of "Magic" – my sparkling shire horse with the golden hooves and white mane – and a lot of tutu-twirling energy, we're off to dance through the annals of history! Now, grab your tutus, put on your rose-tinted spectacles (you know I can't resist!), and join me for this month’s Pink Tutu Adventures…
A Day in the Court of Versailles
We arrived at the magnificent Château de Versailles in France, with its grand courtyards and gilded rooms, ready to see what balletic excitement this time had in store. On the 8th of August, 1703, a beautiful opera and dance piece was performed for King Louis XIV at Versailles – talk about a VIP audience!
There wasn’t a single ballet as we know it today, more like an elaborate and enchanting performance where drama and dance blended beautifully. Think a graceful pantomime with beautiful costumes and captivating storytelling through movement – like an elegant theatrical dream!
Time Travel Fashion Tips
Now, where French ballet and I cross paths is definitely through the fashion! Imagine elaborate courtly costumes – think shimmering silks, feathers, exquisite embroidery, and graceful ribbons – just picture them adorning a ballet outfit! Louis XIV loved the theatricality of “French-style” ballet – an extravaganza that mixed dancing, drama, and the finest fashions of the time. This elegant French ballet style – with its grandeur and refinement – still informs our love of fashion and performance today.
A Peek Inside My Rucksack
And now for the highlight of my travels – what I found on my little trip. Remember my rucksack? I always make sure I have room for anything that “sparks the tutus”! Today, my precious treasure was a silk ribbon from a courtly costume. This vintage treasure – woven in exquisite detail – is going straight into my personal collection of dancing dreams.
A Farewell Embrace of Pink
From my pink ballet shoes to my sparkling shire horse, life's certainly more joyful when you're wearing a tutu! But for now, I'm off to plan my next time travel adventure - I hope you’ll join me for the next Pink Tutu Travelogue on www.pink-tutu.com, my ballet blog dedicated to dancing, dreaming and inspiring everyone to embrace the pink tutu! Until next time, twirl with love!
