Pink Tutu Travels: Post #523 - A Step Back to 1704!

Hello darling dears and welcome back to my Pink Tutu Travels! I'm so excited to share my latest time travel adventure with you - this month we're waltzing all the way back to July 7th, 1704. Buckle up your pink ballet slippers, darlings, we're about to embark on a journey filled with Parisian elegance, courtly grandeur, and the birth of something extraordinary…

Now, you may be thinking "Emma, what's so exciting about 1704?". Well, let me tell you, my loves, 1704 was the year that marked the official birth of what we know today as Ballet! Can you imagine that? No fancy pointe shoes, no grand jetés, no elaborate sets, and no sparkling tutus. Well, perhaps just one...mine! 😉

I, along with my trusty pink sparkly steed, Magic Meg, arrived in a bustling Paris, where we were greeted by cobbled streets, the aroma of fresh pastries wafting from quaint cafes, and ladies sporting the latest in powder and frills. But I had something even more elegant in mind – a grand opera house where the world would witness the very first steps of ballet! The Theatre du Palais Royal, its façade glowing in the afternoon sun, awaited.

It was within these grand, high-ceilinged halls that the first true ballet was born. It was a theatrical marvel, a tapestry of music, storytelling, and dance – and it was, let’s be honest, quite different from the ballets we know and adore today. Think of a dazzling parade, a series of stylized dances and charming dances of courtly elegance – very much like a precursor to the exquisite movements and graceful jumps of today.

Inside, I found myself in the heart of an era brimming with courtly elegance and extravagant display. It was an exclusive world of powdered wigs, satin gowns, and glittering jewels. I imagined the women of the day - their skirts cascading around them as they took steps in their exquisite dance shoes. My rucksack on my back was bulging with lace handkerchiefs and sketches of the courtly designs and early ballet costumes. These treasured keepsakes will soon be added to the Pink Tutu archive! I can’t wait to recreate a historical fashion post – you’ll love seeing it.

Oh, the excitement in the air was palpable. The music was enchanting, the dancers graceful, and the audience rapturous. The stage was filled with stories, all conveyed through the artistry of dance. I swear I even saw a touch of my own pink-tutu energy sparkling beneath the flickering candles! Even without a tutu, it was magical.

Of course, being a ballet aficionado, I made my way backstage after the performance. And wouldn’t you know it, there were actually some beautiful dresses on display - flowing, embroidered, and shimmering under the candlelight. Now, you’ll all be thinking I just had to try them on… Well, wouldn’t you?!

That evening, after another incredible performance and some delightful pastries, Magic Meg and I took off, heading back through time. This adventure taught me so much, and it got me thinking: if we can embrace and cherish this ballet legacy, then imagine the future we can build! A future where we all move together, grace each step with confidence, and make the world a little more glamorous – a world where a pink tutu is the everyday attire, naturally!

Remember darlings, every step in your life, no matter how big or small, is part of your unique dance.

I can’t wait to see where my next Pink Tutu travels take me. You can catch me next month here, on Pink-Tutu.com on 7th August for the next adventures!

Stay fabulous, my darlings!

Lots of pink love,

Emma x
