Ballet Time Travel Blog: Post #557: A Whirl Through 1707 - The Year of The Tutu!

Hello, darling dears! It's Emma, your resident pink tutu-clad time-traveler, back again with another post for www.pink-tutu.com! It's been an absolute blast this month, flitting about in the time-warp, so buckle up because today's adventure takes us right back to May 5th, 1707. Oh, the excitement! I do hope you've packed your pink tulle, because this journey will be positively overflowing with fashion!

The pink sparkling sheen of Magic Meg's coat glinted as we landed with a soft whoosh in a sun-dappled clearing, somewhere in the heart of France. Magic Meg, you see, she's more than just a magnificent pink Shire with a shimmering coat and a mane like spun gold; she's the only horse in the world who knows how to time-travel! Her golden hooves leave sparkly trails that act as coordinates for us, so even with all the swirling through time, I always find my way back home.

My trusty leather rucksack, strapped firmly to my back, was itching to be filled with the stories and treasures from this period. After all, it’s not every day that you get to experience the ballet world of the early 18th century!

Now, darling, I can't quite divulge all the secrets I found, but I can tell you, 1707 was a simply fascinating time for dance. Think "Court Ballet", all about intricate patterns, grand gestures and a certain degree of regal regality. And let's talk fashion! Oh, my dear dears, the panniers, the powdered wigs, and those gorgeous gowns. My pink tutu would have stood out in such a colourful crowd! And speaking of the dance scene, in 1707 there was something absolutely fabulous going on at the Paris Opéra, a dance called “La Mort de Lully” – The Death of Lully. The French composer Lully was a great proponent of dance in the French courts and he, like a modern-day choreographer, incorporated dance into his compositions. In this production, there was an outpouring of emotion in their dances, they actually did a dance as a way of mourning this prominent composer!

Imagine! A whole ballet, just like that. No longer was it simply entertainment for the privileged. Ballet, it was an emotional journey.

This made me think, what would I be doing if I was living in 1707? Oh, to twirl with grace among the French royalty! I can just picture myself enchanting the court with my elegant spins, graceful leaps and those gorgeous pirouettes. Maybe even composing my own dances, just like Lully!

There are times in history, dear readers, that are simply made for pink tutus. It's about bringing a spark, a splash of joyous femininity to the world. Maybe even the Court Ballet wouldn't be so...courtly, if I was in their midst!

After our ballet escapades in Paris, we had the most delightful picnic, me and Magic Meg, under the Parisian moon. Honestly, she has a real talent for sniffing out the finest picnics in every century. But, we must be going!

This time-travelling adventure just whets the appetite for more. You know you can catch up with me next month here, at www.pink-tutu.com - I have a whole new journey planned. And in the meantime, make sure you are practicing your pirouettes, getting ready to bring some colour into your lives. And remember, dearest friends, the world is ready for the pink tutu!

Love always,

Emma xoxoxo
