Post 563: Dancing through Time!

Hey lovelies, and welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com, the hottest blog in all the realms of dance history and fashion! Today we're jetting back to 11th November 1707! My darling Meg (as always, she's gleaming like a pink, diamond-studded dream with her white mane flowing behind us as we ride through the centuries) is pawing the ground impatiently. We're about to meet a real dancing legend – don't you just love time travel? 😉

This month, I've just been gushing over the new ballet shoes. Don't you just love the way those pink satin ribbons look against the sleek, black patent leather? It's simply divine. Oh, I simply must have a pair. And a new pink tutu - something full, with shimmering tulle. And a beautiful diamond brooch...

Anyway, back to our time travel adventure. 1707! Well, imagine that - while I'm wearing this beautiful, bouncy, blush-pink tutu, people back then were just starting to enjoy their own dance craze!

Do you know what this date marks, darlings? Well, I know, it was King Louis XIV (aka the Sun King), whose magnificent court in Versailles, France had its first real ballet extravaganza! Oh my, don't you wish you could have been there! I'd be there, centre stage, of course, with a sparkly new pink tutu, twirling and prancing my way to fame! But back in 1707, ballet was much different. It wasn't about pure dancing but a lot more like what we would consider opera – they'd tell stories through their dance and costumes and acting!

My leather rucksack on my back (filled to bursting with ballet ephemera) just itches with the thought of meeting those dancing pioneers! It must have been divine, to be the centre of that courtly world and see those men, dressed in silk stockings and brocades, with flamboyant feathers and boots, showing off their moves – and their grace – and the boldness of it all! Can you just imagine, the costumes? It must have been so breathtaking. My imagination is in overdrive just thinking about those costumes!

Let's imagine being part of a world that doesn't just love dance - it thrives on it! In a time when dance was the highest form of art, where it held a place that today we can only dream of… that must have been truly magical, don’t you think?

And who knows? Maybe, on our next adventure, I’ll have a royal ball to attend! Oh, my, a ballroom bursting with beautiful pink tutus … all so divinely decadent. What a daydream!

And now, my darlings, time for some more gossip - and, as you know, ballet is gossip – the rumours, the scandals… Oh, the drama! I simply cannot tell you, in this post – it would give too much away, and wouldn’t you just hate me for spoiling the fun?

For those who have joined us since the last pink tutu journey – my blog, you see, goes live every month – just follow @pink-tutu.com – do subscribe, darlings, it's completely free, just click here! [Insert link to blog.] I love reading all your lovely comments, by the way.

You know, darlings, my time travels are paid for by my dancing career – after all, you gotta earn a living! You’ll find me regularly on the world’s most prestigious stages! There’s the Royal Ballet, the Royal Opera House, the New York City Ballet and the Mariinsky Theatre. And don't forget, darlings, to keep your eyes peeled, as this little pink ballerina might be popping up on a stage near you soon.

I've heard the ballet world has some divine delights coming up for the remainder of November and beyond - for November you cannot miss, darling, The Sleeping Beauty at the Royal Opera House. Yes, you read that correctly, The Sleeping Beauty! The story and the costumes, darlings, just… the very essence of ballet! I can’t wait.

Well, I've just got a feeling this is going to be a big, exciting month in ballet history, my dears. Keep your eyes peeled for post number 564!

You're looking fabulous today. Keep that lovely pink glow and that beautiful dance going!

Much love from Emma (and, of course, Meg)!
