Pink Tutu Time Travel: Blog Post #585 - A Grand Soirée in 1709!

Hello darlings! Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood time-travelling ballerina! September 9th is a special date in my pink tutu-clad calendar because it's the anniversary of something quite extraordinary!

Back in 1709, my trusty steed, Magic Meg, a shimmering pink Shire with golden hooves and a cascade of white mane and tail, galloped me to Paris, France, where the ballet world was ablaze with excitement. Can you imagine?! It's like landing at the Royal Opera House during a premiere night, but back in the 1700s!

So, let's journey back to Paris, where the air was alive with the energy of an upcoming event, something absolutely HUGE in the world of ballet – The opening night of a ballet school founded by a real Parisian legend, Marie-Suzanne de la Fresnaye, in 1709. Now, imagine all those twinkling lights and shimmering costumes, a sense of grandeur and the anticipation for a spectacle that would inspire future generations of ballerinas, like myself!

Don't get me wrong, it was still a long way from our modern ballet! Back then, the ballet was more about storytelling with elaborate gestures, and a sprinkle of acrobatic elements. The 'ballet' wasn't as much a series of technically intricate steps as it was about conveying emotion and spectacle. However, imagine the passion, the commitment to artistry, and the groundbreaking effort in setting up a school to hone this talent. This dedication, it is truly inspiring!

I spent the entire day soaking in the ambiance, my pink tutu catching the light of the Parisian streets and making me stand out even more than I usually do, naturally! My back pack filled with Parisian-themed ballet treasures. I found an antique book on dancing with handwritten notations - a true treasure!

In the evening, we found a lovely little bistro just outside the grand Palais de Versailles. The musicians were playing charming melodies and we sipped French wine under the warm lights - perfect after a long day of exploring.

Now, what would a Parisian ballet evening be without some truly fabulous fashion? My dress that night was a dreamy, silk pink with floral motifs that delicately danced as I moved, inspired by the lovely flowers lining the streets. Pink velvet shoes and my trusty, handmade, ballet tulle tutus completed my look!

There's something truly magical about witnessing history in the making! It’s like stepping into one of those grand storybooks, but this time the stories are happening in front of my very eyes. Seeing how the art form began in this incredible way is an extraordinary experience, and it’s reminded me again why I’m on this pink-tutu-clad time-travelling adventure!

And, speaking of journeys, our blog posts may take us through time, but don't forget, time also dances to its own music! It's time for me to say goodbye, darlings! Remember to pop over to www.pink-tutu.com and let me know where you would love to travel in time next! I'll be posting the latest pink tutu ballet adventures at the end of each month, so you'll have to pop back then! Until next time, you glorious, tutu-loving, history-obsessed ballerinas! Keep those tutus twirling!

Lots of love and twirls,

Emma x
