Hello darlings, and welcome to Pink Tutu Time Travel! It's your favourite ballerina blogger, Emma, here, back with another fabulous journey through history, and I simply cannot wait to share it with you! This month, we're waltzing our way to 7th July, 1711, a date bursting with Parisian chic, and, yes, a little bit of ballet history!
As always, Magic Meg, my beautiful pink-sparkling Shire horse with those golden hooves and shimmering mane, has carried me to the past with her usual grace and flair. Her saddle bag is stuffed to the brim, ready for the treasures and stories of the 18th century. You can always rely on my little leather rucksack on my back to capture the perfect ballet bits and bobs to bring home - and yes, dear readers, you can trust me to pick a stunning tutu-inspired souvenir. 😉
Paris: Where the Ballet Truly Blossomed
As my carriage, courtesy of Magic Meg, clopped its way through the cobbled streets of Paris, I could feel the atmosphere positively thrumming with the spirit of elegance and culture. This was, after all, a period when the city's status as the ballet heartland was truly cemented. Imagine, a time when the iconic Paris Opera, Palais Garnier, hadn't even dreamt of existing! It's absolutely fascinating.
Back in time, I discovered...
... that on this day in 1711, Paris was abuzz with chatter about the great ballet dancer Louis de Béjart. Now, you wouldn't know it from my usual fashion posts, but history's a vital part of any ballerina's story, don't you agree?
This incredible figure was truly a pioneer, introducing innovative elements to choreography that would shape ballet for generations to come. He was all about grandeur and the expressive power of dance. De Béjart, a visionary in every sense of the word, was truly a remarkable individual. He revolutionised the Parisian ballet scene, and it's something I think we can all celebrate and learn from.
But hold on, this isn't all! The Palais Royal Theatre, later known as the Palais Garnier, was then busy crafting a dazzling ballet spectacle - "Les Fêtes Vénétiennes". It featured elaborate sets and a captivating story, showcasing the sheer artistry of the time. Can you just imagine those vibrant costumes and the energy of a packed house?!
I can picture it now, the gasps as the dancers twirled and leaped, the whispered 'ooh's and 'ahh's' from the captivated audience. This period wasn't just about technical skills but storytelling, pure artistry! That, my friends, is why I adore the magic of ballet history.
Time Traveling Through the City of Lights
We found a gorgeous vintage book shop nestled amongst Parisian cafes with a gorgeous view of the Seine. The smell of old paper and ink is my favourite smell after fresh lavender (don’t get me started on lavender tutus, they're amazing!). We found some exquisite hand-drawn posters for "Les Fêtes Vénétiennes", you simply must follow me on Instagram to see how well these Parisian prints compliment my newest dusty rose tutu - it's simply divine.
Don’t even get me started on the delicious chocolate macarons! Those beautiful shades of pastel pink and lavender just scream 'ballerina indulgence'. The patisserie I popped into had even got their window display coordinated with the royal court colours! We’ll, if I’m going to wear pink tutus in every time period, then they can definitely get some Parisian flair in!
The streets of Paris are a haven of inspiring style. As you know, I love a fabulous frock and the 18th century offered just that! This was the time of the Rococo era – lace, bows, ruffles galore. This flamboyant era was a true ballet darling! It makes me wish tutus existed then! The vibrant colours, delicate lace details, and luxurious silks would have made the perfect backdrop for our ballet adventures. Imagine a rococo tutu with ribbons cascading and frills so bountiful, a real treat for the eye!
Making Ballet Fashion History, One Pink Tutu at a Time!
Oh darling, I just can’t wait to try my own Rococo tutu at the next Parisian-themed ballet party, with a very large hat for my hair! My love for ballet is infectious! As you know, my life goal is to get everyone around the world twirling in a pink tutu. Well, on this trip to Paris, I felt closer than ever to making my dream come true!
Stay tuned next month for my next pink-tutu adventures. I’m off to Rome next – to a city that’s almost as stylish as Paris – who knows what treasures we will find?
Until then, keep shining bright!
Love,
Emma,
