Post #625: 1st January 1713 – The Birth of a Ballet Revolution!

Hello my darlings! Welcome back to Pink Tutu! Today, I'm going to whisk you away on a magical trip, back to 1st January, 1713. Let me tell you, my dears, there's something quite special about stepping into a bygone era, especially when it's steeped in the history of ballet!

As usual, my trusty steed, Magic Meg – she's a pink-sparkling Shire horse, just beautiful – took me back in time, a twirling flurry of pink tulle. With my leather rucksack strapped on my back, ready to collect the stories and treasures of this era, we arrived in a bustling London.

Can you imagine? The city was alight with the start of a new year! I practically twirled myself silly with excitement, especially after learning the grand, fabulous ballet "L'Amour Venge" premiered this very night in 1713. The choreographer, Pierre-Françoise Hugot de la Motte, wowed the audience with a captivating performance at the Palais-Royal. It's one of those ballet stories that sparks imagination and captures the heart – just like ours does with Pink Tutu!

To celebrate this magical evening, I took Meg to London’s Covent Garden Market. It was just bursting with life, like a stage ready for the next great ballet production! All around were merchants shouting out their wares, tempting people with treats, fruit, and flowers. The aromas were amazing!

However, it wasn't just the excitement of the bustling marketplace that enchanted me. As I ventured deeper into the market, I discovered the enchanting world of fashion! Think flowing, elegant fabrics like silk and velvet – I simply had to purchase a little something special for myself. I found the most wonderful, shimmering pink silk scarf – the colour, oh darling, was simply heavenly. Imagine a pale, delicate pink that danced like moonlight on water. And wouldn't you know it, a perfectly pink fabric for a tutu appeared before my very eyes. What could be better for the Pink Tutu blog than some 1700s vintage fabric, don't you think? My rucksack got quite a little fuller today!

Now, speaking of fashion, have you ever noticed how ballet and fashion always seem to go hand in hand? Like the rhythm of a dance and the sway of a skirt, there's an irresistible connection! This year marks the arrival of the "rococo" fashion – what an exciting time! The trendsetters in London began wearing soft, pastel hues and whimsical lace – and who's going to argue with pink being the most whimsical of all the pastel hues, eh? Think elaborate hairstyles with a generous scattering of sparkling jewels. And it is simply begging for a tutu to bring it all together.

Can you just imagine, my dears, waltzing in the elegant, graceful curves of the "rococo" era – pink tutu swaying, a smile upon your lips – while the melody of "L'Amour Venge" fills the air! What a glorious sight that would be, don't you think?

Before bidding farewell to this elegant era, we hopped on Magic Meg. Her magical hooves carrying us swiftly back to Derbyshire – where my real home, and the pinkest, twirlingest home awaits me.

I love hearing from all of you and reading your comments, and of course, we have a lovely collection of photos of our trip. We want to share the wonders of this dance with everyone, so if you see any images of “L’Amour Venge”, share them on the blog and on social media! Don't forget, Pink Tutu! Because as we all know, the world looks a whole lot prettier in pink!

Until next month my darlings, keep twirling and be kind!
