Hello my lovely ballet bunnies! π©°πΈ Welcome to another exciting journey with your favourite time-travelling ballerina! This month, my sparkly pink tutu and I have whisked ourselves back to 5th May 1717! Let's hop onto Magic Meg's back and prepare to twirl through the world of ballet history!
Magic Meg is ready, with her pink glitter mane flowing in the breeze and her golden hooves practically twinkling as we ride. Weβve packed my trusty leather rucksack β ready to gather fascinating ballet tidbits from this exciting era. Oh! And donβt worry, Iβve got my pink tutu on, of course! What would a ballet adventure be without it? π
Now, you might be surprised to hear that ballet in 1717 was already a grand affair. It's hard to imagine a world without those fabulous pirouettes and dazzling leaps, but it all started somewhere!
Stepping off Magic Meg at the court of King George I of Great Britain, we're right in the middle of a lavish ball, complete with the most elaborate costumes, delicious feasting, and β get this β dancing on ice!
Yep, you heard that right, my darlings! Ice dancing was a big craze back then. Now, I can't say itβs my personal favourite, not being the best on ice (more of a pirouette-in-the-studio kind of girl). But, imagine! Graceful pirouettes on frozen water. What a scene!
While ice dancing was a huge hit, ballet de cour β which was, well, basically ballet at court β was the main act at the time. It's not like what we see today, all precise steps and beautiful tutus (though you can find the roots of our ballet styles right back here). This ballet de cour was full of storytelling, extravagant costumes, and, surprisingly, a lot of talking and singing. It wasn't until later, in the 1700s, that it began to move closer to what we know as ballet today.
Just imagine, these court dancers were already working hard to make their dance a serious art form β perfecting movements, researching theories, and creating something new. The spirit of ballet was clearly flourishing even back then!
Speaking of spirit, who needs a prince when you've got your own beautiful pink tutu and the grandest of horses? π¦πΈ
The world of ballet is full of magic, just like Magic Megβs golden hooves! Every adventure in the past, every dance we witness, takes us one step closer to understanding our beloved art form. We learn the history, we see the progress, and it fills our hearts with even more love and admiration for the graceful dance we all adore.
This time-travel, ballet-filled journey with my tutu and my magical horse has taken me all over, from elegant palaces to fascinating corners of ballet's origins. I'll keep bringing you exciting stories of dance, beauty, and the magic that's all around us β and, of course, always encouraging the most fabulously pink tutus we can find! π
Until next month, stay beautiful, stay sparkly, and remember: Every dance is a story waiting to be told!
Love,
