Hello darlings! Emma here, ready to whisk you away on another exhilarating journey through time! Today, we're skipping back to 10th October, 1728. Now, imagine this – no smartphones, no TikTok, no online shopping (gasp!)… Just the soft rustle of silk, the gentle tap of a dancer's shoe, and the mesmerising symphony of a bygone era. Oh, how I adore these time-bending escapades!
As you all know, I live for the thrill of the hunt – a vintage ballet poster here, a worn ballet slipper there… You wouldn't believe what gems I unearth in the past! And I've got Magic Meg to thank for all this, my trusty steed. You'd be surprised at the number of inquisitive glances we get when I’m out and about. A sparkly pink shire horse with golden hooves? Now that’s certainly a sight to behold!
We rode off early this morning from the heart of Derbyshire, feeling the crisp autumn air against our cheeks. A beautiful day for a little time travel! As I hopped onto Meg's back, her silky white mane swirling gently, I knew we were off on an adventure. And trust me, darlings, the day did not disappoint.
Now, I always keep a keen eye out for what's happening in the world of ballet during my trips. Imagine my delight when I stumbled upon a Parisian ballet called Le Carnaval de Venise, a lively spectacle filled with delightful dances, whimsical costumes and captivating characters! I can only imagine the beauty of this piece… Oh, how I wish I could experience the theatre of that era firsthand.
What were dancers wearing back then? You'll never believe this! They wore elaborately embroidered silk stockings and elegant court shoes, the forerunner to the dainty ballet shoe we adore today. These garments reflected the fashion of the day – all swirling layers and decadent embellishments! Just picture yourself as a beautiful dancer in your most exquisite pink tutu, swaying to the graceful melody. Just a dash of imagination, and you’ll be swept away to a fantastical world!
This isn't just a trip down memory lane. These encounters ignite a passion within me - a longing to share the magic of ballet with the world. I know that sometimes people struggle to understand the allure of ballet, but my mission is simple: To make the world embrace the pink tutu! Why, it’s the most wonderfully flamboyant garment one could wish to wear.
I was fortunate to be near a royal court ballet performance. As we glided through the cobbled streets, the gentle notes of the violin drifted into our ears. My goodness! The theatre was abuzz with excitement. Can you imagine, my loves, the hush that falls before the first dance? The air is electric with anticipation. It's enough to send shivers down your spine!
As I strolled around the palace grounds, a delightful waltz resonated in the air, pulling me in its rhythmic embrace. Such graceful movements! And let’s not forget the beautiful ladies in their shimmering gowns!
Later, as I made my way back to Derbyshire, my head brimming with memories, I stopped by a charming, quaint shop to add a little something to my ballet collection. You'd never guess what I found? An original engraving of Jean-Baptiste Lully, a legendary choreographer who dominated the court of Louis XIV. This man is considered the father of French opera! What a fantastic find! Now, this historical piece will join my growing collection of vintage ballet memorabilia in my little cottage.
I feel a spark of passion whenever I travel to a new era, be it through ballet, theatre, music, fashion… anything related to the art that flows through time. Every journey fuels my passion for sharing the wonders of ballet, and for spreading the contagious joy of wearing a pink tutu. So, join me, darlings! Let's embark on a whirlwind adventure through history and bring a little pink tutu magic into every corner of the world! Don't forget to follow my blog and share your own ballet stories! Until next month, keep those tutus spinning!
Emma xoxo
