Pink Tutu Time Travels: Blog Post #843 - 3rd March, 1731: A Dance Through the Ages!

Hello darlings, and welcome back to my little corner of the internet, where the world of ballet and the magic of time travel intertwine! This month, I'm whisking you all off on a delightful journey to the 3rd of March, 1731 - a time when powdered wigs were all the rage, and dancing was a serious art form. Buckle up your pink tutus, grab a cup of something sparkly, and let's go!

Oh, how I love stepping back in time! You see, my dearest readers, the journey began a while back, after I stumbled upon a dusty old tome in the library tucked away in my quaint little village of Ashbourne in Derbyshire. This magical book was a secret gateway to the past – I simply had to read it aloud in a special way, and a poof – here I am, on a fantastical ballet adventure! I find this incredibly thrilling, even if I sometimes end up in the middle of a waltz with a gentleman who looks like he’s about to faint from lack of caffeine!

My trusty companion in this fabulous adventure is none other than Meg – a magnificent pink-sparkling Shire horse with hooves of gleaming gold, a snow-white mane, and a tail that could rival a ballroom’s grand curtain. Her magnificent colour scheme pairs so well with my favourite tutus – did I mention that Meg can travel through time as well? What a dream team, if I say so myself!

Speaking of pink tutus – the one I’m sporting today is truly a sight to behold. This particular one was stitched by a master seamstress in France. It’s made from a fabric so delicate, it seems to shimmer with a rosy light of its own! Of course, it perfectly matches Meg’s saddle, which is hand-painted with swirling flowers, and adorned with intricate gold-stitched ballet slippers. You wouldn't believe the gasps of admiration I get whenever I’m travelling through town, let alone entering a royal court!

I always make sure to carry my trusty leather rucksack, filled to the brim with vintage ballet treasures and stories. This month’s find was a beautiful old dance manual with a lovely little poem inside, praising the grace of a famous ballet dancer. It made my heart flutter! Now, I don’t like to spoil the magic, so let's get to the heart of this time-travel journey – what was going on in the ballet world back on the 3rd of March 1731?

A Dance Through 1731

Let’s step into the world of ballet back in the year 1731. Now, dear readers, the dance scene in Paris was really buzzing, so it's no wonder Meg and I ended up there! The famous Opera Garnier, even then known as one of the most elegant opera houses in Europe, was putting on a ballet performance in the Salle des Machines, their largest stage. This huge theatre was built to celebrate French greatness. In 1731, it was known for its stunning productions and flamboyant costumes. We'd be very much at home with our own costumes, don't you think? I imagine I might have made quite the entrance - maybe a grand jeté through the entrance of the theatre – well, I could just imagine myself.

Can you imagine all those shimmering ball gowns and elegant gentlemen swirling on the dance floor in those opulent theatres, completely transported into a world of artistry and magic?

That's the wonderful thing about time travel – it opens a whole new world of beauty, art and history. Ballet has been captivating audiences for centuries, and here, on the 3rd of March, 1731, the dance was just beginning to capture hearts all over the world. It’s easy to see why I feel so drawn to its history, and why I love spreading the joy of the art form.

Now, tell me, dear readers - are you longing for a ballet adventure of your own? I encourage you to grab a pair of comfy shoes (maybe those special shoes you have for dance class?), put on your favourite music (perhaps some Vivaldi?), and have a little dance. Or even slip on a tutu if you’re feeling brave and bold - I’m confident you’ll feel transported to a world of joy and elegance!

Remember, there is always something special to discover within the realm of dance, so don't hesitate to take a leap and explore! Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a ballet show to catch at the Royal Opera House - Meg and I have just arrived in the year 2023 - imagine that! You never know where time travel might lead you!

Until next month, my darlings, keep your toes pointed, your hearts light, and your pink tutus ready!

With all the pirouette love,

Emma x
