Hello my lovely ballet-loving friends! Welcome to another exciting journey with your favourite pink-tutu clad time traveller, Emma! This month, we're stepping back in time to 10 October 1731 - buckle up, because this adventure promises some fabulous discoveries about the world of ballet, way before our modern times!
As always, my trusty steed, Magic Meg, is ready for the trip - you know, my beautiful pink-sparkling shire with the golden hooves, white mane and tail - oh she's a stunner, isn't she? She always gives a neigh of approval before every jump back in time, which makes me feel like we're on a real fairytale journey. I even made a matching pink saddle for her, to help bring a little touch of glamour to our travels.
You might be wondering how I fund my time travels? Well, besides being a ballerina and performing at various events - imagine my joy at dancing in front of cheering audiences, all adorned in my favourite pink tutus! - I also sell some of the beautiful ballet items I collect on my adventures. These treasures usually end up in a museum, or on display at my home in Derbyshire, where I sometimes give guided tours (do come by, my friends!). And let's not forget about those incredible ballet shows I love going to; I'm always up for the excitement and magic they offer!
Now, this time, our adventure took us to 10th October, 1731, and trust me, my fellow pink-tutu aficionados, the world of ballet was bustling with life even then! Can you believe, the first ever performance of a ballet titled "Les Fêtes Chinoises" was in Paris! That's right, it featured a whimsical set with enchanting costumes that really evoked that charming Asian vibe, something that fascinates me even to this day! I even found some amazing pieces of theatre programme in the cobblestones - I wonder if they've seen centuries pass? And of course, my trusty leather rucksack, adorned with lace and velvet ribbon, was full to the brim with beautiful little trinkets to remember the occasion.
Speaking of costumes, we can't talk about the history of ballet without talking about the fabulous outfits! It seems in the 18th century, those stunning ball gowns - with delicate lace and exquisite fabrics, truly fit for a princess, were all the rage! I almost felt like skipping into one of those extravagant dances at the French Court. Imagine, gliding gracefully in those fluffy skirts, sparkling with all the panache of a true Parisian! Even then, fashion was important!
So you see, my darling ballet-loving friends, my mission to get the world dancing in pink tutus is going great! It’s truly a magical journey and I hope my blog inspires you to discover your inner ballerina. Let me know your thoughts on this time-traveling adventure – and what your favourite ballet performance was in the comments below!
