Hello lovelies! It’s Emma here, your pink-tutu-wearing, time-travelling ballet blogger, and I’m back from a truly enchanting trip to the year 1733! Buckle up, my darlings, because this journey was absolutely brimming with history, ballet, and, of course, the most delightful fashion finds!
As you all know, my time-travelling chariot is none other than Magic Meg, my sparkling pink Shire horse with golden hooves and a flowing mane and tail as white as freshly fallen snow. We galloped off from my little cottage in Derbyshire, with my trusty leather rucksack strapped on my back ready to gather up the best stories and treasures of the era.
The moment I stepped into 1733, I was struck by the vibrant energy of the period! It was the year that Jean-Baptiste Lully, one of the founding fathers of French ballet, passed away. Oh, he was a true legend! A visionary composer, dancer, and choreographer. Lully’s innovative and beautiful ballets truly changed the course of dance history. And it’s quite something to think that even though I’m visiting a century after his passing, his legacy still buzzed with life all around me.
Now, let's talk fashion! 1733 was a period of elegance and grace. The ladies were all decked out in voluminous skirts, elaborate lace, and stunning powdered wigs. Imagine – all that volume, all that lace! I nearly burst into a fit of girly excitement. Of course, the gentlemen looked rather dashing too, sporting embroidered coats, breeches, and ruffled shirts. But, oh darling, I simply couldn’t resist a bit of pink. Even way back then, it seems pink was the colour for playful and flamboyant femininity. Imagine how much more amazing our lives would be if everyone was embracing a little bit of pink-tutu-tastic fun!
One of the things I adore most about my time travels is that they provide glimpses into the captivating ballet performances of the past. You see, ballet wasn't a mainstream form of entertainment yet, but the rich and powerful were embracing the dance form. The elegant movement, the delicate gestures, and the captivating stories... it was the start of something extraordinary.
Now, I'm absolutely convinced the dancers of 1733 would adore a pink tutu as much as I do. They may have worn elaborate gowns and petticoats, but the silhouette is the same! I can practically imagine the joy and exuberance those flowing skirts would have brought when swishing through the air!
My time travel took me to a stunning performance at the French royal court, an absolute privilege! The performance was so graceful and intricate, the performers so precise. It was captivating to witness their incredible control over every step and turn. In fact, I was so mesmerized, I just knew I needed to document everything in my journal and include it in my rucksack for later perusal back at home.
During the show, I noticed some curious things that caught my eye. The performers used masks for comedic effect, which was a delight to watch, as well as elegant gowns of velvet and satin in bold colours - just bursting with flamboyant personality!
Back at home, I’ve been analysing these performance observations to try to understand why this dance form so captivated the royal courts of the time. And you know what I've realised? It's more than just beautiful movements; it’s a spectacle, it’s captivating, it’s storytelling in a form unlike anything else. In its grandeur, it embodies the ideals of those eras, bringing a feeling of exquisite beauty to life!
Of course, while I was out and about, I indulged in a spot of shopping. My finds are fabulous! A collection of vintage silk ribbons with hand-stitched detailing for my dance shoes. Some exquisite old jewellery with delicate pearlescent beads and stunning stones, fit for any queen! And just imagine my delight when I came across a magnificent antique pink tutu made from hand-dyed silk! It’s simply breathtaking! Even back in the 18th century, it appears, my love of pink was being mirrored, even if tutus were a little different then!
My time travels truly bring me the most extraordinary joy, and every trip brings new knowledge and insights to share with you lovely people. 1733, with its dazzling courts, passionate dances, and stunning fashions, was simply breathtaking. Now I'm even more excited to explore even more of the past and share all those adventures with you, too.
Remember my darling, just like a tutu can transform your everyday routine into something delightful, ballet is an art form that truly can transform lives. And maybe one day, you’ll even join me on my next adventure through time!
