Hello dears, and welcome back to Pink Tutu Time Travels! It's Emma here, ready to whisk you off on another exhilarating journey through time! This month, we're setting our sights on the 5th of May, 1733. Buckle up, my darlings, because we're going on a whimsical adventure to the heart of the ballet world! And yes, you guessed it, Iām sporting my most magnificent, pinkest tutu - it wouldnāt be a Pink Tutu Time Travel without it!
I have to confess, I feel extra giddy this month because not only is our adventure about the most wonderful art form in the world - ballet! But also, my dear friend, Magic Meg, is ready for an extra sparkling trip! We are on the most fashionable time travelling expedition!
Letās just admire her for a moment - oh Magic Meg - isnāt she gorgeous? Sheās absolutely sparkling this month. Just the most beautiful, pinkest shire horse in the world, and such a clever girl! Those golden hooves are simply to die for, and her long, flowing mane and tail are the whitest! It's so funny when we travel, everyone always stares at her - in a good way! I bet people are so confused seeing her in the most unlikely of places! That white mane just screams out āPink Tutu Time Travel!ā.
But back to 1733! Imagine - itās 5th May, 1733, and you are in Paris, the heart of elegance! You might not even realise it, but weāre at the very heart of the burgeoning world of ballet. It's all so exciting! Now, the Parisians in the 1730s, were obsessed with all things elegant, with opulent colours, fine silks, and dances that were graceful as the swirl of a summerās day. What an amazing period of time! There's a hint of history, a touch of theatricality, and all kinds of incredible swirling, elegant movements that really capture your heart. Oh, to dance those graceful steps in a pink tutu, and be admired for being the most graceful and fashion forward woman in the city. And with the Parisian scene so dazzling, ballet truly sings here.
In 1733, we had two exceptional ballerinas - Marie SallƩ and Marie Camargo. These two dancing stars graced the Parisian stages and lit up every performance with their phenomenal grace, flamboyant moves, and their dazzling, sparkling performances - it's pure enchantment! Now you have to admire someone who can be as incredible in a ballroom dance as on stage - truly inspirational. I bet they loved twirling in their magnificent, bright, silky dresses too! I can imagine they loved wearing some sparkly pink as much as I do!
But of course, itās not all about ballet, you know. Time travelling means being a good tourist, so that is exactly what Iām doing! I even have a pink leather backpack which I use for collecting special treasures, like an amazing vintage piece of fashion, or a little snippet of dance history I've stumbled across in a beautiful ballet programme or book, and even a bit of local news! So far, I have such amazing souvenirs in my pink backpack, I need a new one. Maybe, maybe I should design my own Pink Tutu Time Travellerās bag, maybe one thatās as large as a mini-trunk! Maybe a pink and sparkly one, complete with some amazing little pink tutu pouches on the sides. Thatās something I can start designing straight away after this post! Oh, the wonders of pink!!
I was actually rather amazed at the French people - I mean look how fashionable and well - dressed everyone was, particularly those with the right to attend the ballet! They all had such amazing manners! We have a lot to learn from them! Of course, we all try to be as polite and elegant in England, but thereās definitely a different atmosphere there. You can tell they have really honed those fine art skills from dancing! Imagine having ballet class three times a week as part of the syllabus at school! There would be so many more amazing ballet dancers - how fabulous would that be! I do really believe all the elegance of this era was due, in no small part , to ballet!
It has been so much fun here in 1733, that is until we just saw the King - well his portrait, anyway - Louis XV. Now he was quite the charmer back in the day, though the fashion is something you might not want to copy too much. It was definitely a bold statement and he was all for the frilly bits - imagine trying to dance in something that voluminous! It takes a lot of stamina for even Magic Meg to gallop in a costume like that, let alone dance in one!
Now this is the most exciting thing! This date - 5th of May, 1733 - we are graced with something truly special - The Grand Ballet du Théâtre Italien - wow, it was fabulous! There was so much music and beautiful colours it was a delight to just sit, and take it all in! The dance movements - how graceful they are! It was one of those performances that really make you think about just how much skill goes into creating all this - the movement of the ballet itself was simply magnificent, I was entranced by every twirl.
And the costuming! Oh my* - such bright, luscious and detailed clothing. It was a kaleidoscope of wonderful colour! I'm quite sure the *French Ballet Masters loved all these details - it truly felt like watching a moving masterpiece - a dream-like sequence! And with the dancers in their colourful costumes, it felt like I was stepping into the very storybook world of the show. And guess what else I saw? One dancer in the middle of the most amazing *pink silk costume - oh she really did set the most beautiful example - her skirt just flowed out into this fantastic shape, and then at one point she paused and just did this swirl of movement. It made such a great shape and it all seemed to radiate outward in this wonderful explosion of colours - the whole performance really sparkled. Absolutely stunning. It was such a powerful move - it just flowed around her - so delicate, yet strong. And of course, my favourite part of the performance? Well, the tutu in the pink skirt of course! My love of pink!
After seeing such a magnificent spectacle, I just felt all those dancing vibes coursing through me - I need a ballet class now! So much! So if any of you are thinking about a time travelling ballerina like me - this is definitely a must on the āplaces to visit list!ā. Oh how fabulous it would be to travel with a whole troupe, perhaps we could all dance through a beautiful French countryside one day, in our pink tutues! Maybe next month, Magic Meg?
