Hello darlings! Welcome back to my little corner of the internet, www.pink-tutu.com. It’s your favourite pink tutu-wearing time-travelling ballerina here, Emma! September’s here already – how on earth did that happen?! September always feels like the start of the season, don’t you think? I guess that’s why the Royal Ballet are back at the Covent Garden with their annual run of Swan Lake. You bet your tutu I’ll be in the front row, glued to the stage! And who knows what other treats I’ll be able to cram in this month, what with a trip planned back to the golden age of ballet…
Oh, the thrill of it all! This month, I’m taking my trusty pink sparkle-shirred steed, Magic Meg (a truly magnificent shire horse with a white mane and tail, golden hooves, and of course, the most sparkly pink coat!), to 1733! Isn’t she divine? Magic Meg’s just as excited as I am!
We're leaping back in time to the 9th of September, 1733! Imagine a world without pointe shoes or even tutus! You bet your bottom dollar the world of ballet was very different in the 1700s, darling. Imagine – the focus was all on technique and elegance. Ballet costumes, while beautifully tailored, would be very different from the costumes we see today. No fluffy, feminine pink tutus! I can't help thinking about all the beautiful pink tulle I'd love to have with me on this trip. Just imagine the photographic opportunities! I can practically see it: "Emma in 18th century pink." Sigh. Oh, to dream!
Let’s dive into the world of 1733! It was a truly exciting time for dance. Remember the Bournonville style? The focus was on airy jumps, precise steps, and graceful artistry. Imagine ballet in such a stylish period! Ballet back then, although slightly different from what we're used to now, was as captivating and captivating as ever! I’d just love to have a little glimpse of a dance show back then. To see what was captivating them back then, the dances, the fashion – just breathtaking!
Just like my little fashion escapades, time travel has become quite the thing for me, so of course I need my special pink leather rucksack, lovingly filled with my favourite things for each trip: I have a secret pouch for my time-travel diary and sketches; another one with some pink glitter just in case; a few ballet accessories and shoes to inspire my 18th century peers; and the perfect pink pen for recording all those fascinating observations, historical facts, and dance discoveries. I even manage to squeeze in a tiny little pouch of ballet-themed tea. (Don't worry - there are no spills, thank you Magic Meg!) You know, you can't just hop back in time without the essentials!
Now, for the ballet details: My diary has plenty to keep me entertained about this time. For starters, one of my favourite dancers, Jean-George Noverre (what a magnificent name, don't you think?), was just 24 in 1733. Imagine the impact he had on dance! It seems that he’s already making waves in the world of ballet – this truly magnificent young man was about to become the king of choreographic brilliance! Imagine getting to meet such a fascinating dancer? He really made a difference! Imagine having a backstage tour with him and meeting all his famous friends. The envy! Noverre introduced new ballets called ballets d'action which were meant to tell a story and evoke strong emotions through beautiful movement! No more purely theatrical and entertaining dances! They were becoming expressive and full of heart! I can only imagine how beautiful they would be to watch – to think, I've got the privilege of living in a world with Noverre's ballets being so popular – I don't take it for granted for a minute! I’ve just got to thank Magic Meg – if it wasn’t for her we wouldn't be in a time when his ballets were enjoyed worldwide! Oh Magic Meg! I’ve really got to give her some apples and carrots when we get back – it really is quite tiring flying through the past – just ask her, you wouldn't be able to keep it a secret for long, would you darling! You'd just tell everyone, that’s what I love about my Pink-Tutu.com readers – the gossip's just so fun! My Pink-Tutu community is the best!
Imagine how the dancing itself has changed! My heart flutters with excitement just thinking about it all! So much beautiful dancing, a world away from what we know today - you just have to look at the way that dancers in 1733 wore beautiful dresses to showcase their moves! How elegant it all looks!
And of course, a little splash of ballet fashion on a trip is always a necessity. As any avid ballerina, or someone who loves my Pink Tutu.com site, knows: dance and fashion go hand-in-hand, just like me and Magic Meg. This is my kind of history, the glamorous sort. Oh the lovely things! You know the only thing I love more than dressing in pink tulle is watching gorgeous ballerinas. My latest trip really highlighted what’s been missing – well, maybe not missing, but you get what I mean, the excitement that dance, dance wear, and dress has to offer the world. And let’s face it - I am not shy about making an entrance on the 9th of September 1733 – you know that pink tutu is a statement!
Now darling, until my next adventures in pink, it’s time to get your ballet shoes on. There's a world out there just waiting to be discovered - the beauty, the passion, the thrill - don't let it go undiscovered! Have a delightful September and don't forget to check out the www.pink-tutu.com website next month for a brand new time travel post - who knows where my magical journey will lead next? But until then, don't forget: pink is the answer! Love you!
