Hello darlings! Welcome back to Pink Tutu's Time Travels!
It's been another thrilling month exploring the past and this time, we're off to the grandest city of them all - Paris! Oh la la! The romance of it, the history, and, most importantly, the BALLET! I am so excited about this one, you have no idea!
Now, let's backtrack for a moment. You all know Magic Meg, my trusty shire steed - she's a vision in pink, wouldn't you say? She practically sparkles with her golden hooves, white mane, and tail, and a spirit that simply makes you believe in magic. She is the very essence of pink, and her shimmering coat is a delightful surprise every time I ride her!
Well, this time, our journey to 5th May 1737 has involved not just Meg but also my brand new, absolutely delightful, pink satin, three-tiered tutu with a delicate silver edging! It was a little bit tight for the journey through time but I promise, the sparkle was totally worth the effort. The fabric billowed beautifully on arrival, sending a flutter of pink across the Parisian cobblestones, which just made me swoon!
Speaking of Paris, did you know that the city was already becoming a centre for ballet in 1737? It was all so exciting! I was thrilled to hear whispers about this performance by the OpƩra de Paris. A certain 'ballet d'action', you know, something dramatic, like the ones they're putting on nowadays in Derbyshire! You simply couldn't help but be a part of it!
To help my explorations, I brought my trusty leather rucksack - itās packed full of my secret weapons. Some of my favourites include, of course, my ballet shoes, and, of course, my ballet sketchbook - it's so important to capture the elegance and artistry that I see when Iām time traveling! You wouldn't believe some of the stunning ballet poses that the dancers in the past are capable of - Iām going to do my best to capture their beautiful, graceful moves to share with you all!
Anyway, it seems as if the main attraction for the night is this "Ballet de la Musique" with its wonderful dance by the famous M. L'Arlequin! It appears he's going to be wearing a pink, black, and white costume! Who could possibly say no to such a spectacular costume combination?
After a truly exciting afternoon filled with Parisien flair (lots of pastries and fancy boutiques for me, naturally!), I took in a performance that made me completely swoon. Just imagine, this ballet dāaction, like I said - the costumes were so impressive, the stories and drama absolutely gripping, and the choreography was truly masterful. This kind of storytelling through movement? Now thatās what I call artistry!
Oh, I did, of course, capture a quick sketch for my ballet sketchbook. M. L'Arlequin is absolutely superb! There is just so much emotion and skill pouring out from him, and the other dancers too, especially the lovely Ballerine dressed in her pale blue tulle tutu, she really does have some grace about her! Just like I do! But obviously, I am even more wonderful - my tutu is PINK, and who doesnāt adore a good shade of pink?
Of course, you know me and my love of ballet fashion - I just have to check out what's on offer here in Paris. I spent a glorious few hours wandering through the Parisian bouquinistes on the banks of the Seine River. I picked up an original manuscript copy of Jean-Georges Noverre's famous āLetters on Dancingā. Can you imagine! What an amazing treasure! It was a real vintage find, and I know itās going to become one of my favourite ballet history books! The details on ballet techniques are wonderful - some have actually stayed in use even in my time. I just knew I had to grab this for my collection!
Now, back in Derbyshire, we are going to take our pink tutus out for a special night at the ballet! This week, there's an amazing show on. I am thrilled to finally see that classical dance masterpiece Swan Lake with the stunning and ever-so-lovely dancing. This one is always such a magical treat - the drama, the gorgeous dancing, and that fabulous romantic ending? It never fails to make me wish I was part of it! There are so many different interpretations of Swan Lake, you simply have to experience the variety!
It is going to be a magical night and if you happen to be near Derbyshire do pop along, wear a pink tutu, and enjoy it with me! If you cannot join us, that is no problem, you can always tune in to www.pink-tutu.com and enjoy our lovely Pink Tutu Blog with a cup of hot tea. I will try my best to capture all the loveliness of it for you, dear reader.
Until next month, lovelies!
Love,
Pink Tutu!

P.S. I've been having such a hard time keeping my collection of vintage ballet shoes hidden from my family! It's all quite the challenge! Itās all part of keeping my love of pink, my love of tutus, my love of ballet history, a secret for the time being. The only one I can share my secrets with is Meg, she knows what makes me happy and she just understands. Donāt you think itās the best horse and girl combo in all the world?
